Afton Thatch Holiday Cottage Description

Afton Thatch is a large, detached thatched holiday cottage located at the head of the River Yar. In an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the cottage, built in 1697, has been restored to a very high standard and awarded 4 stars by Visit Britain. Tasteful and yet understated, this lovely cottage has been interior designed and features antiques, handmade curtains and upholstered furniture throughout.

With oak beams, fireplaces and an eat-in kitchen, complete with aga, the cottage has an authentic style and atmosphere that is rare among rental properties. 'I think that the greatest appeal is that Afton Thatch feels lived in. Many vacation homes have this kinda cold feeling to them when you arrive. When we get to the Thatch we feel right at home immediately, and get on enjoying ourselves right away' (Family of 3, May 2010)

A large and professionally landscaped garden offers an enclosed lawn, a swing inside the willow tree, a summerhouse, containing table football, a small orchard with rope hammock, and even a trampoline.

From the cottage one can walk to Afton and Tennyson downs, or along the cycleway beside the River Yar to Yarmouth. Compton Bay, a beautiful National Trust beach, is a short drive or bicycle ride away.

This property has been advertised on My Favourite Holiday Cottages since 09-06-2010
