Lambside House Holiday Cottage Description
Our five peaceful cottages are dotted around our working organic dairy farm, set in unspoilt countryside on the beautiful South Devon coast. All our cottages are just a few minutes walk from the coast path and some lovely remote beaches and coves, whilst the wilderness of Dartmoor is only a short drive away. The wonderful Erme estuary and Mothecombe beach, with over 130 acres of sand at low tide, is just a couple of miles away.
Lambside House is a a Georgian 'gentleman's residence' once owned by Edward Baring of banking renown, this beautiful house has been refurbished in a way that retains every bit of style and grandeur whilst leaving no doubt about its friendly atmosphere - this house loves people.
The house forms the cornerstone of a large farmyard with disused stone barns on all the other sides and completely surrounded by peaceful pastureland.
Through the columns of the entrance, a wide hall with flagstone floor has an elegant living room on either side, both of which open out, with the use of large double doors, to create a stylish expanse that would suit any party or special occasion at any time of year.
The enormous kitchen/dining room is the perfect place to gather. It is fully equipped with every conceivable requirement, including a breadmaker and it has an Aga to complete the picture, plus an electric oven and hob.
The ground floor also has a sunny playroom, with a daybed, a pull out bed underneath, games and toys including table football and there is a utility room with a washing machine and tumble dryer, sink and downstairs toilet.
Upstairs there are five bedrooms: one large king sized and a massive en suite bathroom (with his and hers sinks!); one further double; two twin rooms, one of which has an en suite bathroom and another room with a single bed and full size bunk beds. We can also put a Z bed into one of the rooms if you require. There is also a family bathroom with a bath and shower over. The house sleeps 11 and, with the daybeds and pullouts, will sleep 14 comfortably.
Outside, a large lawn to the front of the house has garden furniture and a wooden wendy house, and it is all just minutes from the coastal path and beyond. There is a small paddock - ideal for ball games, and out the back of the house is an outside toilet, log shed, bin store and a small herb garden.
Explore the nearby picturesque towns of Kingsbridge, Dartmouth and Salcombe or visit the historic port of Plymouth. Why not visit out of season and cosy down by a roaring log fire, or come and see the lambs in spring? Short breaks available November to March.
We put fresh local organic milk in each cottage for guests on arrival. Carswell is also the birthplace of the Well Hung Meat Company so our visitors can taste award winning local organic lamb and beef.
All the cottages are extremely well equipped with Digital widescreen TVs, DVDs, washing machines, dishwashers etc and all have private gardens with table and BBQ. Cots and high chairs available on request. Well behaved dogs are very welcome in The Lodge, Corner and Shepherd’s Cottages.
Open all year. 5 cottages sleeping from 2 to 14 (33 people in total). Short breaks available all year.
This property has been advertised on My Favourite Holiday Cottages since 10-06-2010
