Exmoor Self Catering Accommodation
Stay in a holiday cottage within the Exmoor National park and discover a picturesque landscape of rolling moorland and, steep-sided tree-filled valleys covering 267 square miles of North Devon and West Somerset. From cosy thatched cottages to barn conversions and wonderfully restored manor houses, there's a choice of self catering accommodation on Exmoor to meet all needs from romantic escapes to houses for large house parties. Where Exmoor meets the sea, rivers and streams cascade majestically down some of the highest cliffs in Europe between Porlock and Combe Martin. At Hangman and Little Hangman you can look over the cliffs into the surf below if you are brave enough, or look across the Bristol Channel to Wales. Find your way down winding flower-filled lanes to quaint villages such as Exford, Brendon, Luccombe, Simonsbath and Withypool, many with tea rooms and welcoming pubs serving local ale, meals produced from locally sourced food and cream teas.

It is the diverse landscape that makes Exmoor so special. One minute you will be walking along a rough cart track, high up on the moor, the next you could be walking through lush green woodland farm land or a buttercup-spattered field surrounded by sheep or Exmoor ponies. Tread lightly, and like as not, you'll spot some of the many red deer prevalent on Exmoor. The moor is also honeycombed with lovely villages, full of tea-rooms and craft shops. The villages of Lynton and Lynmouth at the top and bottom of the cliff, with a charming old Victorian cliff railway connecting the two, are a must, while Dunster with its famous castle, still inhabited by if owners, the Lutterell family and ancient yarn market is a wonder at any time of year. Minehead, the 'Gate Way to Exmoor', is a delightful resort, offering the chance to combine a seaside holiday with days on Exmoor (and steam train rides to Somerset villages on the West Somerset Railway).
Exmoor has inspired great literature in the past. Lorna Doone is based on the village of Oare, while the landscape proved equally inspirational for poets such as Samuel Coleridge. Today, walkers can follow in his footsteps enjoying a day following the Coleridge Trail. Walking holidays on Exmoor are very popular with its mix of ancient footpaths, green lanes and long-distance trails such as The Tarka Trail, Two Moors Way (both linking Exmoor with Dartmoor), or the section of the South West Coast Path that runs from Minehead to Ilfracombe.
