Holiday Cottages in County Antrim

COUNTY OF ANTRIM . Portrush, with the sandy beach of Curran Strand and good activities for children at the Waterworks and the  Coastal Zone, also the centre of Northern Island's surfing scene.  For the connoisseur of good Irish whiskey, make for Bushmills, and while you're there, catch the train to the Giants Causeway - 60 million years old and formed of thousands of naturally made hexagonal columns, all being viewed by thousands of visitors all year round. Walk the Causeway Coast Way, 53 km. long ,but the most attractive section, between the Giants Causeway and Carrick-a-Rede, can be done in a day, but watch out for the high tides which could maroon you.

RATHLIN ISLAND where hundreds of seals and thousands of nesting seabirds make their home in Spring and Summer, and where the cave in which Robert the Bruce watched the legendary spider succeed in spinnng its web against all odds is beneath the East Lighthouse. You will need to book somewhere to stay well ahead of time, the accommodation being limited, but camping is free not far from the harbour in Church Bay. There's good walking through the Glens of Antrim, taking in several pretty seaside villages, and  visit Northern Ireland's oldest medieval fortress in the historic town of Carrickfergus.
