The Byre @ Cross Farm

Unwind at The Byre, the most welcoming of cottages for up to six people and a dog. It's the perfect getaway for family or friends.

Nestling amidst peaceful Exmoor foothills on the edge of the charming village of Goodleigh, you will be 5 minutes from Barnstaple, North Devon's principal (and historic) town and just 20 minutes from the North Devon coast with its sandy surfing beaches at Saunton Sands and Croyde or further along the coast at Putsborough and Woolacombe.

The village of Goodleigh has a very popular pub, the New Inn, with excellent food and a lively, welcoming atmosphere; it also includes children and dogs. Barnstaple is only 3 miles away and has excellent pubs and restaurants as well as a multi-screen cinema and indoor tennis courts at The Tarka Centre.

If you like cycling, you can pick up the Tarka Trail from Barnstaple train station and cycle along the Estuary to Braunton in one direction or Instow and Torrington in the other.

There are great restaurants, and places to visit within easy reach of the cottage, The Broomhill Arts Hotel has a lovely restaurant, and its sculpture gardens are a must. For the children, the Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park and The Big Sheep are superb for a fun day out.

Take the essence of a traditional country holiday home blessed with a touch of continental style, and you begin to get a feeling for the Byre at Cross Farm, a modern and well-equipped holiday cottage full of character and charm in quiet surroundings. Dogs (2 max) are accepted, and there are plenty of walks from the house.

The Byre is a charming 3-bed barn conversion; the master bedroom has a king-size oak bed and an en-suite bathroom with a bath with shower attachment and sinks and WC. There is a bunk bedroom with two adult single beds and a chest of drawers. Finally, there is a twin bedroom with two single pine beds and a fitted wardrobe. Outside the twin bedroom is a family bathroom with an electric power shower, WC and sink.

The kitchen, dining room, and lounge are all open and separated by two small steps. The kitchen is very well equipped, with an electric cooker and hob, a large fridge-freezer, dishwasher, washer/dryer, microwave and loads of kitchen utensils ideal for family entertaining. The dining area has a large pine refectory table covered with farmhouse table cloth and six chairs; a bookshelf with books, games and CDs and a music system. Down two more small steps is the lounge with two three-seater sofas, a slate coffee table, and a flat-screen TV and DVD.

Outside, the cottage has a lawned garden accessed through patio doors; there is a wooden table and bench for alfresco dining. In the bottom left-hand corner is a small, fenced garden with another table, bars, and a brick BBQ. In the other corner is a pretty pond with ornamental fish. This is fenced-in and secure for children.

Chic simplicity

A lovely cottage - clean, contemporary and uncluttered with a genuine sense of country style. Comfortable too! The village pub does great food and is very family friendly.

Well equiped, comfortable and the dogs loved it!

Had a lovely 4 day stay, house well equiped and comfortable, our 2 dogs loved it here, they looked very sad to leave. Our favourite beach was Woolacombe as it is dog friendly and not over crowded. Great stay. Thank you.

A Charming Retreat

We enjoyed a wonderful holiday based at the Byre - it is an extremely comfortable, characterful cottage and we were made most welcome. The Byre's location is peaceful, yet it is well placed for beautiful local beaches and other attractions. We plan to return.

Great Summer Family Bolt Hole

A lovely family holiday fortnight – we saw all the grandchildren and their parents (obviously) during the 14 nights. The beaches are beautiful, Ilfracombe and Clovelly interesting. The Braunton Arms and the New Inn are great eating places and the "Byre" was just right.
