EATON-UNDER-HEYWOOD

Church Stretton 4.6 miles |Ludlow 15 miles | Shrewsbury 16 miles.

This small rural village lies under the famous Wenlock Edge and the woods that run along it, and is surrounded by scenic countryside. From the village, the Jacob's Ladder path leads straight up the Edge, providing lovely walks. Nearby is the pretty market town of Church Stretton, which lies in the heart of south Shropshire.

Church Stretton is set amid striking scenery and has often been described as "Little Switzerland". The town is the main centre for Shropshire's hill country and home to a variety of tea rooms, pubs and specialist shops. Other local attractions include walks on the Long Mynd, the Acton Scott Working Farm as seen on TV, and Stokesay Castle. The historic towns of Shrewsbury, Ludlow, the World Heritage Site of Ironbridge, Much Wenlock and Bishops Castle are only a short journey away.

Comfy cottage by 80LauraB on November 28th 2017

Lovely cottage in beautiful surroundings. Well equipped, warm, comfy. Easy to find. Lovely grounds to explore. Lovely hosts and very helpful. Loved it.

Perfectly cosy by Deb H on January 10th 2017

Betty's Barn is warm, cosy, comfortable and clean. We travelled as an extended family with our little dog. The layout meant that everyone had their own privacy upstairs with two bathrooms and two very spacious bedrooms. The beds were comfortable too. The heavy beams give the barn extra character. Set in the countryside you are surrounded by widelife, many birds live in the hedge rows just outside the living room window. The stables are opposite and it was a pleasure watching the horses being tended to and ridden. There is parking right next to the building and there is a little garden to the front which will be lovely in the summertime. The kitchen is beautifully appointed and has everything you need including a big dining table in the middle on which to enjoy meals as a family. Shropshire towns are not far away, we enjoyed walking around Ludlow and Ironbridge. We also drove out to Hereford. There are also plenty of walks around Betty's itself so don't forget your wellies! Kim and her mum are wonderful hosts. We will return!

Liked the friendliness and consideration of the owner and her family, lovely people. This was probably one of the best holiday lets we have experienced!

by Mrs Williams on January 1st 2016

A beautiful property, with lovely surroundings & a great local woodland walk. The family are especially warm & friendly and made a special effort to make us feel welcome & relaxed. The animals on the farm were a real treat! Will definitely be recommending to friends.

Spacious and comfortable, in a stunning location. by Milbo on October 27th 2015

My wife and I stayed with 2 close friends and our 2 dogs. We were very impressed with the size and layout of Bettys Barn. It was idyllic for us. The owners were extremely friendly and helpful without being intrusive. Great walks for the dogs in the private gardens/woods ( Melusine loved the ponds!!!) Very very minor matters prevent this from being a straight 5 star for me. No shower in 2nd en-suite meant going into friends bedroom to shower. Could one be put over the bath?? Could the cooker hob knobs be re labelled as worn off so no idea which is which and how high they are set (could be dangerous). No Wifi available which would have been useful researching days out. Although I understand this can be available in an emergency. Other than that really brilliant stay in this comfy and cosy excellently converted barn. Thank you

by Mr Snowball on August 28th 2015

As soon as we entered Betty's Barn, we thought "Wow" this is fantastic. The barn is clean, comfortable and spacious and had everything we could possibly need. The owners are very friendly and went out of their way to make our stay as pleasant as possible. If you want a relaxing holiday, this is the place to come. This is the best holiday accommodation we have stayed in and would certainly love to come back again.

by Mrs Graham-Smith on August 10th 2015

A wonderful cottage which was very comfortable and full of character. The surroundings were amazing and the owners were very friendly.

by Mrs Rose on May 21st 2015

Betty's Barn was so tucked away, it was lovely to feel so 'in the country' but without being totally isolated. The owner was just over the road and was extremely friendly and helpful. We loved the large rooms and feeling of space. The cottage was really well equipped and was lovely and clean. We particularly appreciated a decent sized freezer as we didn't want to have to keep running out to the shops to stock up!

by Ms Fletcher on March 30th 2015

Made to feel welcome and that our enjoyment of the holiday was important. A wonderful converted property surrounded by countryside, peaceful and therapeutic. Would definitely visit again.

Peace and relaxation by Anthony A on January 21st 2015

On Friday 9th January 2015 my wife and I arrived at Betty's Barn for a long weekend. Outside it was cold, dimpsy and blowing a gale, but inside the cottage it was spacious, clean, warm, cosy and very relaxing with not the hint of a draught. We were greeted by Elizabeth and her granddaughter and made to feel welcome and very much at home - nothing seemed to be too much trouble. Lovely location with views over open farmland and the activities of a working farm, stables and equestrian centre where you are free to access the animals and assist. The house and grounds have many hidden secrets and there is total freedom to roam the woods and garden complete with stream, pool and wood carvings. Don't forget your wellingtons and walking boots! We intend to return for a week later in the year.

by Mr Ackland on January 17th 2015

Superb property in a wonderful location with really nice owners. Very quiet and relaxing. The brochure does not do it justice really, especially in relation to the grounds and freedom to wonder, explore and become involved with the animals etc.

by Mrs Jones on December 2nd 2014

A well designed barn conversion which was very comfortable and cosy. Lovely to wake up to the sound of the cock crowing. We have only good things to say about Betty's Barn.

by Mrs Kirk on November 18th 2014

Betty's Barn was very good, with no faults the owner was very helpful.

by Mr Higson on October 26th 2014

A fantastic hideaway on a really interesting working stables and farm. Peacocks, strolling around, fabulous secret garden and the host are fantastic !! A real home from home experience, very relaxing and beds so comfortable we couldn't get out of them !! All in all 'a tonic for jaded minds' . We will of definitely return.

by Mr Burke on July 28th 2014

The owners were lovely, accommodating people; giving our children free reign to explore their busy working farm and even taking time to introduce them to the many animals. Fantastic holiday home!

by Mr McGettrick on June 22nd 2014

The cottage is of an excellent standard, the owners are very friendly and helpful and I would highly recommend this property .

by Mrs Jones on June 18th 2014

Having stayed in Vine Cottage last year we went for the larger property this time.Once again we had a really lovely time. Betty's Barn is a lovely cottage , very spacious ,and well equipped. The owner and her family were very friendly ,that being one of the reasons we returned again this year. I have only one fault with the holiday we should have booked for two weeks instead of one.

by Mrs Brinnen on May 4th 2014

The locality and accommodation were very good and gave us an excellent 'away from it all' holiday. The owners' extensive grounds were a real bonus for us and our dog. Lovely walks close by with the added attraction of close encounters with wildlife and domesticated animals. A real tonic for townies!

by Mr Smith on April 13th 2014

The property is situated in a working farm, the layout of the place is such that it isn't affected adversely. It is, if you have kids who love animals, a very large positive because the domestic animals roam free and will often pay a small visit if you're outside. We were lucky enough to be staying during lambing season and our children were invited to see the new lambs. The farm aside the area is stunning and very peaceful.

by Mrs Mulville on January 4th 2014

The warmth and cosines of the cottage, the lovely welcome pack that we all enjoyed including the children. The owner and staff who worked on the farm were lovely and friendly. The children loved the animals on the farm and had great fun mimicking all the sounds they made.

by Mr Lutz on September 29th 2013

Very friendly host, best holiday flat we ever had. A beautiful garden, full of magic.

by Mrs Wilhelm on August 1st 2013

Loved the fact that the cottage was situated on a farm which was the great for the children. The farm is in a very quiet location with a huge beautiful garden. The owners of the farm were very nice. We would love to come back again one day.

by Mr Kidd on April 9th 2013

Great location, woodland walk excellent, nice to have ducks and hens freely wandering around the farmyard.

by Miss Constance on March 18th 2013

A lovely cottage with friendly owners in a lovely location. Set on a farm with lots of livestock for our son to enjoy seeing. Wonderful dog walks nearby.

More than just a holiday cottage by fifibt on March 2nd 2013

Betty's Barn is a lovely cottage, comfortable, spacious and very well equiped. This alone would be enough to recommend it but what makes Betty's Barn really special and unique is the location. Betty's Barn is on a working farm and guests are able to roam freely amongst the animals. Our daughter loved being able to stroke the horses and feed the ducks and chickens. Additionally, there is a many arce tranquil garden for walks and picnics as well as several public footpaths nearby. The owners are the most welcome hosts. We were lucky enough to see a hunt starting from the farm. A really unique holiday.

by Mr Rouse on December 17th 2012

Lovely conversion, perfect for relaxing and chilling out, will be back there in the future.

by Mr Smith on October 29th 2012

The hospitality of the family was so fantastic, we felt like part of their family! Our 2 year old daughter loved all the animals, the setting was perfect!

by Mrs Haines on October 14th 2012

What a wonderful place to have a holiday, the owners were so welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. Being an animal lover, especially of horses, it was fantastic. I would recommend this cottage to anyone.

by Mrs Watts on September 23rd 2012

The barn was spacious and modern in a lovely, quiet location. The various chickens, peacocks and other animals made it interesting. Nice little touches of fresh flowers and biscuits made it very welcoming.

by Mrs Carthy on September 4th 2012

The holiday was a really fab, lovely cottage. Lovely area and friendly owners. Would recommend to anyone, can't wait to return.

by Mr Green on August 6th 2012

The place was perfect for us and our three young children, quiet and safe.

A lovely barn conversion on a busy livery farm. The owner was very friendly and we had access to the animals. It was very clean and well equipped.

A Great Break by LucindaStaffs on April 28th 2012

My friend & I decided to have a few days away from husbands, children & grandchildren! We chose Betty's Barn for its location and the fact we would each have our own bathroom. The Barn is lovely, a very good conversion, well thought out and beautifully maintained. The owner was very friendly and it was lovely to be in close contact with the horses and livestock. The weather was pretty dire but it was lovely just to relax in a clean & warm house. Thank You

excellent by A FlipKey verified reviewer on January 13th 2012

The property was perfect, lovely and clean with everything you need for a comfortable stay. The surrounding area was picturesque and the owners showed us around the grounds including all the various types of animals, my son loved stella the pig, and the chickens roaming free.

by Mr Kent on October 30th 2011

Excellent accommodation in an outstanding location.

by Mrs Phasey on September 29th 2011

Betty's Barn is immaculate and we loved seeing the variety of animals on the farm and being able to wander around to see them. Our granddaughter particularly liked the owl and the chickens!

by Mrs Ferry-Swainson on September 4th 2011

Betty's Barn is a lovely cottage, very comfortable and an extremely well converted barn. It is set in a great location with welcoming and accommodating hosts. We will return to this cottage and have already recommended it to family members.

by Mrs Matthewman-Ward on August 9th 2011

The owners were super friendly and helpful. It was a real home from home - cosy, clean and comfortable with all mod cons. Loved being able to sit out in the sun at the end of the day with a glass of wine. The family passport at nearby Ironbridge was great value and gave us several days out.

by Mr Moore on July 15th 2011

The location of the barn was very tranquil and beautiful, in the depths of the countryside, and we enjoyed evening walks along the roads. The barn was extremely spacious, a real bonus when you have two young children. The fixtures and finishes were of a high standard. There was a warm welcome from the owner's family and they let our young son help feed some of the animals on the farm, which he really enjoyed. It was the first time he saw a peacock too!

by Mr Edwards on May 30th 2011

Everything - The Cottage, the County, the people. Everything was just perfect.

by Mrs Harker on May 2nd 2011

It was a lovely, comfortable and spacious cottage - very well converted barn. A very nice part of the country. It was nice to see the animals, sheep, horses peacocks, chickens, very free range! Any small problems were dealt with promptly by owners.

by Mrs Taggart on March 9th 2011

The peaceful location, the owners, the overall home from home feel of the cottage & seeing the farm animals and horses. It's the best place we have been for stargazing as there's no light pollution. We also enjoyed exploring the surrounding area. A lovely relaxing break and we will certainly recommend Betty's Barn to others.

Excellent by A FlipKey verified reviewer on November 4th 2010

Lovely barn conversion, all mod cons, everything you could need. Well though out and very comfortable. Friendly unobtrusive owners on hand for assistance and information. Excellent location,

A real gem of a place! by Travelling_Trios on October 28th 2010

This is a great location for a family get away. A new holiday let Betty's Barn is well equipped and very clean and the beds are very comfy. We were very lucky with the weather and on the one day it rained it was great to come back to a lovely warm cottage. We had a fab time walking round the farm- there is a large pen boasting a wide variety of birds and 2 huge pigs round the back. We can't wait to return with our little boy when he's older so he can really appreciate the animals up close. Betty's Barn is child friendly - our 6 month old and our friends 18 month old were very well catered for. The location is amazing, if you like being away from it all, which we did. Beautiful views and walks to suit all abilities, we even managed a few walks with the prams. Liz and her daughter Kim are brilliant. They made us feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble. In fact all the people we met, whether workers on the farm or horse riders tending to their horses at the stables, were friendly and offered a cheery 'hello'. Liz even gave us a tour of the farm and told us about all the different types of birds which was much appreciated. I would really recommend this place if you want to go somewhere to chill out or even use it as a base to explore Shropshire. We have already booked to go back again.

by Mr Hughes on September 29th 2010
