Carlow Castle was built somewhere between 1207 and 1213 by William Marshall on the site of a moote erected by Hugh de Lacey in the 1180s. Only the western wall and two of the towers now survive. It is situated on the banks of the River Barrow near Carlow town centre. Stay in one of the many holiday cottages around Carlow and enjoy touring around the many wonders to be found nearby.
