About the location
Kettlewell 5 miles; Hawes 12 miles.
Nestling at the foot of Buckden Pike, near the head of Upper Wharfedale, this idyllic village makes the perfect place from which to explore the wonderful scenery and pretty villages of this magnificent Dale. Much of Upper Wharfedale is National Trust owned – an indication of the beauty of its classic countryside, with dry-stone walls and barns, important flower-rich hay meadows and valleyside woodland. Undoubtedly, this is one of the best walking areas in the Dales with The Dales Way passing nearby. The village itself comprises a cluster of stone-built cottages and houses with a traditional green at its centre. A perfect location for a holiday!
Lovely house for a break with the extended family by Christopher/Ann... B on August 7th 2017
We booked Cliiford House Farm because we wanted somewhere where we could get together with our four children, their respective other halves and our granddaughter, plus two dogs. It worked really well. The house is very comfortable, in good decorative order, with a well equipped kitchen and with good quality linen provided. The welcome tray on arrival with tea, coffee, biscuits and milk in the fridge was a nice touch. The nine of us, plus baby enjoyed memorable communal meals around the large farmhouse kitchen table, and there was plenty of comfortable sitting space in either of the two lounges. The weather during our stay was poor, and we appreciated the efficient heating!
Fabulous Accommodation by Louise R on June 10th 2017
We gathered family here; three siblings, spouses and others for a reunion. The accommodations far exceeded our expectations and the location was perfect for all. The kitchen was well equipped and stocked with ample cutlery and crockery for our large group. We didn't light the fire or wood burning stove but it was ready to use. Having 3 bathrooms was great as well as 2 lounge spaces. Having a house full didn't feel claustrophobic because the space was well utilized. Convenient for Grassington, Skipton, Hawes and Leyburn the location gave plenty of options available for those that didn't want to walk. It's unfortunate that The Buck Inn is closed because it left nowhere to eat locally for an evening meal. However the White Lion in Cray was amazing. This property is ideal for large groups, walkers or sightseers.
Wonderful by Ted G on June 7th 2017
We rented Clifford House Farm to celebrate my husband's 70th birthday. It is large enough to accommodate all four children and partners plus grandchildren. The space is terrific. Both sitting rooms large enough to fit us all in, but also allowed some quiet space when needed. The kitchen is huge and well equipped, with a table to seat 12 people comfortably. Lovely views from just about all windows. It is tucked just behind the Buck Inn, sadly closed at present, but that meant it was very quiet. The owners are really helpful and go to any lengths to make you feel welcome. All in all and excellent holiday.
by Mrs Pringle on June 26th 2016
Liked the situation in the centre of the village and all its amenities. Also, the log burners in both rooms made it very cosy. The big kitchen table seated 11 of us very comfortably and the Aga was great for warming the plates and also drying our clothes after a thorough soaking whilst walking the Dales Way.
A great place to stay. by Richard W on February 26th 2016
I stayed with my two sons, daughter-in-law and a bunch of Matt's mates from Australia. They were over for fell walking from pub to pub, with about 15 miles of rugged hill between. Jen and I were backup drivers, delivering to the departure point (pub) and collecting them from destination (pub), where they were watching the WorldCup Rugby tournament. Another reason for their visit. Jen was mummy to them all, while we both did the shopping daily, and enjoyed excellent pub lunches in the area. while the lads were hiking the hills. We took our turn in cooking the evening meal, in the well appointed kitchen while they watched more rugby on the TV. Plenty of room for the 8 of us, plus we celebrated Matt's Grandpa' 99 'th birthday with other family members including my other daughter-in-law, Granddaughter, and first wife. A very large kitchen table and two comfortable living rooms, one with a wood burner making a cosy warm atmosphere. Lovely place to stay: could not fault it, and two minutes from the Buck Inn. I would revisit if I could!

The new bathrooms and kitchen are fabulous. The house is very well equipped and is spacious but also feels homely.
by Mr Chisholm on June 22nd 2015
Liked everything! The Farmhouse has been refurbished and this was deeply appreciated by members of our party, especially the showers and kitchen. The pub next door is brilliant and the inhabitants friendly, plus the fact that any description of the Dales cannot do them justice.
by Mrs Hayden on May 31st 2015
A lovely farm house which was well equipped, perfect for large family party of all ages. It was well situated with fantastic walks from the house.
by Mrs Tyler on May 17th 2015
The cottage is in a great position for exploring the Dales by foot or car, and having a pub almost on our doorstep was very convenient. The cottage was large but still retained a cosy feel to it and was very comfortable.
by Mr Pearson on February 22nd 2015
The house was perfect for a family requiring five comfortable bedrooms, two separate lounges and a large, warm kitchen seating ten people round a large kitchen table. It is sited in a lovely village with a welcoming pub and shop in wonderful walking country and scenery. What more does one want?

We liked the location - very quiet and peaceful.
by Miss Poole on July 25th 2012
The farmhouse was brilliant for us. There was plenty of space and we were all pleased with the layout and facilities. The closeness to the pike was fantastic and meant it was easy to walk the dogs. Food in the village was lovely and despite the weather we managed to get walks and picnics in. It was particularly good for families as when you were at one end of the house those at the other end couldn't hear any noise!
Very cold, caretaker had not turned heating on,owner did not know by A FlipKey verified reviewer on April 13th 2012
The house was very nice ,once we had got it warm and that took 3 day's,so not the best start to a holiday, with young grandchildren.Buckden is very nice, pity about the buck inn,as we were looking forward to eating there,no food and very run down. What we liked best was the wonderful kitchen ,and the very large table, and the only warm place to sit !.least never go there in the winter, unless the owner has told the caretaker to put the heating on.
Lovely cottage with the Dales on your doorstep by The Bryants on October 20th 2011
Lovely cottage. Very comfortable and clean. A garden would have made it slightly better as we had small children and couldn't use the patio which was at the end of the lane. It is however in a lovely peaceful spot right next to the Dales way and Buckden Pike. Easy driving distance to the Three Peaks, Skipton, Bolton Castle, Leyburn, Hawes.
by Mr Middleton on August 29th 2011
The cottage was spacious even with the full complement of eleven people. The location offered outstanding views of the Yorkshire Dales with plenty of walks on the doorstep.
A cracking weekend by A FlipKey verified reviewer on May 16th 2011
The ouse was excellent for our needs. Enough bedrooms to sleep us all. Games to keep us entertained, a week functioned kitchen. Wood and fire to keep us warm. From the village we were able to walk straight out of the house on to an excellent walk along the Dale tops without needing a car. Only downside - its a shame the pub has closed down - hope it reopens soon.
by Mr Evans on March 23rd 2011
Good location - Buckden is in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, felt like we were really getting away from it all. Clifford House Farm was very nice to stay in.

Lovely big family kitchen, always warm, even in the bitter cold, due to the AGA style appliance. The real heart of the property. The house was big enough to have a holiday with lots of family members yet still enough room to enjoy a bit of peace and quiet. Superb walks straight from the house.
Large Comfortable House in Beautiful Countryside by Maureen on February 17th 2010
We rented this cottage for my husband's 60th birthday - We invited some of our friends. We all had the best of times. We had the birthday meal at the restaurant attached to the village shop - it was brilliant. Plenty of other places to eat in the village, all very good. Did some lovely walks straight from the house and must return some day to do some more. The cottage was huge - lovely family kitchen where we all ate breakfast together. Lovely bedrooms and 2 living rooms. so plenty of room for all. Recommend this cottage and hope to return, maybe for MY 60th!!

The area, which is fantastic, the space in the house for a large group, the fact that the house felt warm on entry (due to the rayburn being on before we arrived), and that despite very cold weather, we were always comfortable. This is a house where you immediately feel at home, and the ability to have real fires is great.
