Sleeps 6

Foxholes is one of a series of barn conversions set around a central courtyard on a working farm just outside the sleepy hamlet of Cleatlam, County Durham. An imaginative conversion of an old stable block and the most sheltered of the properties, Foxholes offers ground floor accommodation for families and groups of up to six on holiday in the North East.

This three-bedroom farm cottage features full-length picture windows set within its sandstone arches and includes an eco-friendly wood-chip farm heating system.

The double bedroom of this child-friendly cottage includes an en-suite shower room with picture window, whilst a luxurious four-poster bed awaits in the king-size bedroom. The well-equipped modern kitchen, spacious sitting room and separate dining area all feature full-length picture windows overlook the pretty courtyard, which includes a designated play area.

Cleatlam itself offers wide greens, often with ponies put out to graze, whilst the nearby Teesdale village of Staindrop features Raby Castle, one of the grandest in England with a walled garden and 200-acre deer park adding to its splendour.

The popular market towns of Barnard Castle and Darlington are short drives away.

Most Enjoyable

Surrounding area was very interesting. House was a very spacious and well appointed renovation. Very hot water on instant supply. Owners were very friendly. Negatives - the oven took a lot of understanding, as did the dishwasher, and the cow byre was too close. No smell inside the house but outside was quite often a bit smelly.

Really great family holiday home.

Wanted to visit the north and the Dales, relax, visit some well known places like Beamish, NRM Shildon, High Force, etc. and found much more was here to see. This was the perfect base, child friendly, (3 kids in our group ages 6 to 10), set in a beautiful situation, well fitted out cottage, we loved it. We all agreed that it would be nice to come back. Great service, great spot, we give it an a+.

Location was fantastic, loads to see and do. Beamish and Hartlepool Historic Quay are well worth a visit. The accommodation is located in an ideal area for children as there are no major roads running through. The owners are friendly and welcoming. We would definitely recommend Foxholes or any of the adjacent properties to family and friends. Well worth the visit and we have been twice so far.....

Foxholes is an ideal base for the Tees valley, Durham and the Lakes. The accommodation is first class for a 'get away from it all' holiday and the excellent amenities make it feel like a home from home. The cottage was very well heated with lots of lovely hot water and big enough for 6 people to all have their own space. The surrounding countryside absolutely beautiful!

Mrs Young

Very comfortable beds; excellent layout of the property and very good position for sight seeing eg York; Beamish; Windermere; White Scar Caves and of course Barnard castle and Bowes Museum.

Mrs Lavery

Beautiful scenery quite close to property - this area of the country is really undersold. Very cosy and warm for our week.

Mrs Cross

Foxholes is a spacious property with excellent facilities near many interesting places, but away from the hustle of nearby towns. It is not overlooked and is in a beautiful location.

The friendliness of the owners was excellent. We'd booked it especially for my parents, with my dad being unsteady on his feet, and the property did not disappoint.

Mrs Johnson

The owners were friendly and made us all feel like we were family - nothing was too much trouble. It was home from home and set in a great place with wonderful views and places to visit. The kids loved being able to play safely in the court yard on the front, we enjoyed ourselves and liked it so much that we are looking at re-booking again next year. Would recommend it and have told family and friends.

Miss Pearson

We were made to feel at home and it was lovely area, our dog felt at home too and the accommodation was ideal for my mother-in-law too as she isn't very good on her legs but she was in her own end of the accommodation but with easy reach if we were needed.

Ms Smith

Fabulous well equipped cottage, with very pleasant owners.

Mrs Clemmett

Lovely countryside. Lovely views, cosy cottage.

Miss Lynch

We chose Foxholes for the all on one level accommodation and the en-suite. The layout was great with the en-suite room at one side of accommodation and the bedroom with bathroom on the other side of the lounge. It was also good to be able to park close to the front door.

Greeted on arrival by the owner who was very welcoming and friendly.
The cottage was very cosy with a fantastic heating system and abundance of hot water which made for great power showers. Good base for touring the Durham area.
