There is so much to see in this historical region and a great way to see it all is by staying in a Derry holiday cottage and use it as a base to travel around.Derry/Londonderry , Northern Ireland's second city, has a tremendous historical base, echoes of which are still obvious today, when Catholics fought against the imposing of Protestant rule, culminating in the Loyalist defiance, still evident after 300 years. There's a lot to find in Derry with a flourishing music scene and seriously good food, festivals. Try to be there for the Halloween Carnival, the biggest in Ireland, when the whole city dances the night away in the streets.

Visit the Tower Museum, the 17th century St.Columb's Cathedral, the partisan Museum of Free Derry, and the amazing twelve murals painted on the gables of houses in the Bogside district. Limavady, the source of the world-famous tune - the Londonderry Air/Danny Boy originates from Derry. Anglers will enjoy fine sport fishing (between May and October) for trout and salmon in the River Roe. The coast of Derry County has many wide sandy beaches, home to land-yachting and kiting. Try to see the wonderful landscaped gardens in the National Trust's Downhill Estate, and the Causeway Speciality Market in Coleraine.
