Perfect location This was a little gem of a cottage for me, my husband and the dog. A lovely part of the world and the weather cleared up for our short stay

A sympathetically restored 200-year old Grade II-listed fishermen's cottage, Melinda's Cottage nestles above a chuckling stream in the heart of a wooded valley in Bucks Mills, a tiny rural village on the North Devon coast. This family-friendly coastal cottage sleeps 4 in 2 bedrooms just a short stroll from the beach. Buck's Mills, being at the end of a no through road which stops where the Atlantic starts, means it lies in a peaceful secluded location - there's minimal passing traffic!

We had a super week in this beautiful, peaceful, historic cottage. Entering the village of Bucks Mills is like stepping back in time. The village is access only for cars, so the walk down the lane to the beach was easy even with bodyboards, picnic, and a paddleboard in our hands. There is sand on the beach at low tide right in front of the end of the path although we walked along the pebbles for about 15 mins to a larger stretch of sand with no one else on it most of the time. This despite it being the hottest (and busiest) week of the holidays! It seems that because there is only a small car park in Bucks Mills the beach never really gets busy - a real place to escape from the crowds. The rockpools were really interesting too - plenty of crabs and prawns to try to catch in the nets provided by Melinda’s. As well as the beach we found lots to do during our stay. We enjoyed lunch at the Farmer’s Arms in Woolfardisworthy and The Hoops Inn (it was too hot to walk to the Hoops but we would definitely do that next time if the weather is cooler). We also enjoyed playing at the Aquapark at the North Devon Wake Park a 5min drive away - this is a definite for all ages, and kept the teenager happy!
Adorable & comfortable cottage
July 11th 2020
We stayed as a family with two young boys (under 5) and had a thoroughly wonderful time at Melindas cottage. The cottage is absolutely delightful- full of charm, very comfortable and had all we needed. WiFi was much faster than at home! The boys loved playing on the pretty little garden and looking over the wall to the stream. The village is picture perfect but also very peaceful. A pleasant wander past the other beautiful cottages that make up the village, alongside the stream, and it’s down the hill to the beach. Lots of rock pools to explore and sand at lower tides. Also very peaceful. Lots to do in the surrounding area. Plenty of great walks, picturesque towns, gardens and beaches of all kinds to explore.
Fantastic cottage and location

“A lovely little old cottage in a quiet and unspoilt village with a great history . We stayed over New Year with our two young daughters. Did some great coastal walks and visited some fabulous local pubs-the Hoops and the Farmer Arms. Good selection of board games and videos to keep us entertained in the evenings. Kitchen well stocked with utensils, plates etc. The space is small as described, but very well managed so worked well for the four of us. Beds are very comfy. The village shop at the top of the hill is well stocked. We took our own fuel for the fire as recommended and it worked really well. Evening walks to the beach coming back in the dark was a total hit with the kids. Make sure you take a torch if you go out after dark which is essential but adds to the fun of staying in this village. A little gem. We will be back.”8
Fantastic weekend away

I couldn't praise John and Jo more as property managers; they were so prompt, polite and understanding in their approach. Their cottage is absolutely perfect; an idyllic fisherman's cottage set in a classic Devonshire village- the complimentary cookies were a dealbreaker! Would throughly recommend the cottage and the homeowners to anyone. Thank you so much again, Rob and Alice.

A long weekend spent at Melinda's, in pleasant and comfortable surroundings and the old world charm of a time gone by. The cottage was exceptionally well equipped, with the games and jigsaws appreciated. In spite of the November weather and Devon power cuts the weekend was very much enjoyed.
Brigadoon in Bucks Mills
October 16th 2019
Just like the story of Brigadoon, the Scottish village that only appears every hundred years. This little place is in a hidden valley, very peaceful, lots of butterflies and birds and even a hedgehog in the garden one night, which the dog found so exciting she went mental running around, she'd never seen one before. Lots of new experiences for her as she's only a puppy, she especially liked the sandy beaches, where she ran riot, Crooklets beach is a good one if you want to avoid the crowds. Didn't manage to find a fish a chip shop which was a bit disappointing but on the whole, a lovely quiet little place and Melinda's is a darling little cottage. Would definitely stay again. Bucks mills is the land that time forgot (peace quiet and tranquility) but not too far from interesting places to vist. Don't venture out at night without a torch, as no street lights. We enjoyed are stay very relaxing.
September 28th 2019
Bucks Mills is an almost unknown location on the North Devon coastline and yet one of real natural beauty. The village is stunningly pretty and very small. The single road winding it’s way down to the sea is lined by character laden cottages adding even more charm. The sea at high tide is gloriously noisy because of the boulders on the shore and is incredibly beautiful. The village is packed with charm. And the cottage is a lovely place to use as a secret base from which to go exploring. You need to be fit though as the descent to the shoreline is very steep. The cottage was immaculately cleaned prior to our arrival and was fully equipped with everything you needed and with no silly surcharges or surprise costs. The owners were a delight to deal with and the whole experience was a joy.
We will return ☀︎☀︎☀︎☀︎☀︎ excellent

Very helpful owners

Quaint, quiet and peaceful Picture postcard cottage in a perfect quiet village location near the sea. Fully equipped with everything you may need on holiday. Wifi very useful as we had no phone signal inside the cottage (thats not a bad thing), and good enough to stream Netflix etc. Great base to explore local attractions and some great walks on the doorstep, just be aware the cottage is in a valley and walks involve hills some of which are very steep in places. Owners John and Jo were very helpful with regular information via email. We really enjoyed our week at your cottage and would holiday there again, the only negative for us was the lack of shower but thats just a personal preference. Keith & Paulette

My stay 10-17 August 2019 The cosy cottage is very quaint with a small bridge at the front to cross a stream and a garden full butterflies, the walk down to the beach although very steep is through the quiet village of Bucks Mill with lovely cottages a long the way and the valley covered in woodland. When at low tied there was a gully of sand between the rock pools for easy access to swim. The location was great for the A39 to discover South towards Bude places such as Hartland Quay with magnificent rock formations and Sandymouth a beautiful sandy beach with big waves and RNLI present and National Trust free parking. And to the North for provisions Asda was 10 mins away towards Bideford and Westward Ho! also has a lovely stretch of sand.

Lovely cottage in a peaceful location Lovely quiet cottage in a very peaceful location. The beach is only a few minutes walk down a hill albeit quite steep with good rockpools. Very comfortable cottage with everything you need. Right on the SW coastal path for good walks and excellent sandy beaches nearby.

Bucks Mills is very unspoilt and a cute place to stay . A stroll down to a wonderful rocky beach and close to Clovelly to drive to for an evening drink when all the visitors have gone ! The cottage is small and with a range and simply furnished is a unique experience.

Had a very enjoyable short stay. Cotage is very comfortable and full of character. The hamlet feels very secluded which we loved.
