Neil and family - October 2018
A sympathetically restored 200-year old Grade II-listed fishermen's cottage, Melinda's Cottage nestles above a chuckling stream in the heart of a wooded valley in Bucks Mills, a tiny rural village on the North Devon coast. This family-friendly coastal cottage in a sleeps 4 in 2 bedrooms just a short stroll from the beach. Buck's Mills, being at the end of a no through road which stops where the Atlantic starts, means it lies in a peaceful secluded location - there's minimal passing traffic!.
Melinda's Cottage offers self-catering holidays for 7 days or more and short breaks out of season and at short notice (min. 2 nights).
Accommodation in this charming traditional country cottage in Devon comprises: * Sitting room with satellite TV, sofa, armchair and dining table seating 4. Original range, High chair provided. * All electric, fitted kitchen with oven, washer-dryer, microwave, kettle, etc. radio and a selection of traditional games. * Double bedroom with King-size bed. * Twin bedroom with adult size bunk beds
Melinda's Cottage has a pretty garden to the front with lawn, shrubs, picnic table and bench. It has its own parking space right outside!
Bucks Mills is about a 2-mile scenic woodland walk westwards along the Coast Path to the historic village of Clovelly. Walk east towards Bideford to find tiny coves and rocky shores.
The Beach at Bucks Mills has a small stretch of sand as the tide ebbs away, with opportunities for rock-pooling, paddling and swimming.
Further afield, Melinda's Cottage is nicely located for forays into Cornwall and resorts such as Bude and Tintagel. To the west are sandy beaches at Westward Ho! and Northam Burrows and Appledore, a quaint fishermen's village. Children can be royally entertained (you may have to drag them away) at two local theme 'farm parks', The Big Sheep and The Milky Way.
The ancient port of Bideford has all the main shops and services you may require including a Morrison's and Asda supermarket. Embark here for boat trips to Lundy Island and coastal cruises. The village shop about a mile outside the village and a historic thatched pub, The Hoops Inn just a few minutes-drive or an evening stroll along the coast path.
Bed linen and towels are not included but can be provided at £40 per week for 4 guests if required.
All utility services including storage heating are included in the price.
We regret that we are unable to accept pets.

Full of character

Had a very enjoyable short stay. Cotage is very comfortable and full of character. The hamlet feels very secluded which we loved.
Lovely cottage, felt like stepping back in time

Bucks Mill is a bit off the beaten track, but if you like walking and want to be away from the crowds, this is perfect. We loved it, it is very private, but you do have to drive to all amenities. The village is steeped in history with it's lovely cottages, including this charming cottage. It's small, but very quaint.

Lovely village and cottage. Joanna was very helpful with instructions and recommendations before our trip. We stayed at Melinda's Cottage while walking the South West Coast Path. We were comfortable during our stay and enjoyed learning about the history of the area and people.
A REALLY, REALLY GOOD HOLIDAY AT MELINDA'S
September 29th 2017
Really, really good holiday back in the cottage for the first time since 2005. We will return to Somerset relaxed and bronzed after several long coastal walks including to Clovelly and Hartland Bay via Docton Mill and Spekes Mill Mouth. Plenty of time to potter on the beach and read on two wet afternoons. Had a good lunch at The Hoops and a delicious evening meal at the Pattard Kitchen north of Hartland which has just opened recently. We can also recommend ‘the fishman’ who lives in Higher Clovelly. Rang him on Thursday evening and collected two fresh-cooked succulent lobsters on Thursday. Thank you for letting us rent your lovely cottage again.
A PERFECT WALKING HOLIDAY

Stunning location! We were very lucky with the weather, a few showers but plenty of sunshine too. Beautiful walks with incredible views. The cottage is just right for a walking holiday.
CRABBING, WAKEBOARDING AND CHIPS!
September 29th 2017
A lovely cottage and a lovely beach and a really sunny week. We went body boarding at Westward Ho!, crabbing and eating fish and chips in Appledore, wake boarding at the Milky Way and prawning in Bucks Mills.
Sunshine and ice cream all the way!

Another fantastic week in Bucks Mills. We arrived in lovely sunshine and had 3 days of blue skies. Caught lots of prawns in the rock pools, had some great walks and a few meals at The Hoops Inn is as good as always, and nice to be able to walk there. Also had a lovely walk from downstream to Clovelly and back before an ice cream stop. Great fun and back next year!

We've had a really lovely week here in North Devon. Bucks Mills is beautiful and Melinda's Cottage a perfect haven for a holiday in the area. The peace and quiet are a perfect tonic and set us up nicely. A lovely cottage, we hope to return soon.
