Surrounded by rolling Exmoor hills between the confluence of Badgworthy Water and Oare Water on the Devon-Somerset border, Oare Water Cottage in the rural hamlet of Malmsmead is a detached countryside cottage featuring conservatory, large living room, and delightful enclosed garden.
Tucked into a triangle of land between the confluence of Badgworthy Water and Oare Water in the picturesque Doone Valley, Oare Water Cottage in the charming hamlet of Malmsmead, Somerset, offers idyllic accommodation for up to four guests in the Exmoor countryside.
A detached bungalow in a secluded location surrounded by rolling hills, this pet-friendly cottage is the perfect home base for exploring this beautiful locale. This part of the South West is known as Lorna Doone Country, made famous by the RD Blackmore romantic novel, and this beautiful part of Exmoor National Park is renowned for its ancient woodlands and heather-clad moors.
Entry into Oare Water Cottage is through the conservatory, which makes an excellent sun trap to enjoy an afternoon cup of tea no matter the time of year. Continue from there into the fully fitted kitchen and onto the large living area, made up of the comfortable sitting room with TV and a dining area with French door leading onto the patio and surrounding garden.
Two bedrooms – one double and one twin – adjoin the living area, and one of the two bathrooms comes with a jacuzzi bath perfect for a relaxing soak after a day spent hiking the many walking trails through the national park.
Walk across the packhorse bridge to the Lorna Doone Arms during the summer months for an evening meal with drinks, or for nearby meals or a pint, The Staghunters Inn in Brendon and The Rochford Inn are but a short drive away.
This small cottage also is approximately seven miles from the coastal village of Porlock in Somerset and the small Devon seaside town of Lynton to enjoy the picturesque Exmoor coast.
