Property Details

Bridesmere was restored in Spring 2015. A former Devonshire barn in a rural setting on the Northern fringes of Dartmoor, it retains many of its original quirky features. It provides large, spacious accommodation over two levels for 8 guests, comprising of 3 large bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, separate toilet and utility area and a large upstairs open plan kitchen/living/dining room. Bridesmere is detached and located on the western side of Clifford Barton courtyard with its own parking and a private garden to the rear. The garden is fenced, with views over a spruce forest towards Fingle Bridge, and features a fire pit perfect for BBQs or cooler evenings and a patio ideal for outdoor dining. On entering Bridesmere there is a good sized entrance hall with plenty of space for coats and footwear. A wide wooden staircase leads directly up to the first floor. Halfway up the stairs is a large glass door that provides direct access down some stone steps onto the patio and garden. The first floor is open to the eaves and comprises a double bedroom, a shower room and an open plan living/dining/kitchen area. The double bedroom has a king sized bed with a very comfortable 1500 pocket sprung mattress. There is a wardrobe, chest of drawers and a sofa. The modern shower room comprises, shower, sink and toilet. The upstairs floor retains its original slope from North to South and this is particularly noticeable in the kitchen/living room. The lounge area has two huge, soft tan leather Italian sofas and matching armchair to sink into, a 32-inch flat screen TV, DVD player (please note Bridesmere does not have a woodburner). Beyond this is a large dining table with 4 benches able to accommodate up to 12 people. The end of this room has an open plan handmade kitchen with large wooden breakfast bar on which there is an BOSCH induction hob, and ample open shelving so that you don't have to go rummaging around in cupboards for utensils. There is a large fridge (and freezer in the utility room), BOSCH oven, microwave, dishwasher, kettle, toaster and NESPRESSO coffee machine. Beyond the kitchen a large glass door allows exit/access down a stone stairway to the parking area. Downstairs is a large double bedroom with king-size sleigh bed and 1500 pocket sprung Harrison mattress giving you an in credibly comfy night's sleep. There is a wardrobe, chest of drawers and sleigh day bed/ sofa. This can be used as an additional bed for a child. The other large downstairs bedroom has 4 single beds, 3 are long singles (European length 200cm) and the 4th is a standard single size (190cm long). All are 3 ft wide. This bedroom has a large en suite family bathroom with bath, shower, toilet and sink. There is also a separate downstairs toilet and a washing machine and utility room. Bridesmere has a telephone and has WIFI. Thought has been given to the property's restoration throughout, with great attention to detail, and all soft furnishings are handmade. Bridesmere is located at the southern end of a 50-acre wooded valley, around which there are lovely scenic walks, including around a c.2-acre lake, which guests are welcome to explore and enjoy. To the north of Bridesmere is a large, historic double-Linhay barn, in which there is a stage for any budding actors, a table tennis table, snooker table, table football and an old piano, which guests are welcome to play.
