About The Mews

  • Sleeps: 2
  • Bedrooms: 1
  • Bathrooms: 1

In a small corner of the stunning South Devon countryside, with fresh sea air and the most beautiful scenery, you will find Carswell Farm. Tucked away on the South Devon coast, our 7 holiday cottages are right in the heart of our working organic dairy farm and yet only a few minutes walk from the coast path and secluded beaches and coves, including our own private cove.

Although it is just across the lane from Shepherd's Cottage, The Mews has been arranged to give complete seclusion and offers an open plan living area downstairs with a woodstove, and a modern kitchen with a small dining area. One of the settees can convert to a single bed if required. There is also a small cloakroom downstairs with a toilet and basin.

A spiral staircase winds up to the first floor, also open plan, which has a king size bed and bathroom area with toilet (discreetly hidden behind the bookcase), hand basin and a wonderful antique roll top bath!

French doors open out onto the patio from the bedroom, giving you an area of total privacy (apart from the odd cow peering over the fence perhaps) from which to soak up the serenity of the surrounding countryside and to enjoy a soak in the gorgeous wooden hot tub.

Explore the nearby picturesque towns of Kingsbridge, Dartmouth and Salcombe or visit the historic port of Plymouth. Why not visit out of season and cosy down by a roaring log fire - short breaks available all year.

We put fresh local organic milk in each cottage for guests on arrival. Carswell is also the birthplace of the Well Hung Meat Company so our visitors can taste award winning local organic lamb and beef.

The cottage is extremely well equipped with digital widescreen TV, DVDs, washing machine, dishwasher, Nepesso cooffee maker, microwave etc and the private garden has a patio table and BBQ as well as the romantic wood fired hot tub!

Wonderful Weekend break

February 19th 2019

We're just back from The Mews, a pretty, cosy cottage for 2. It's such a magical place, extremely well designed and very comfortable indeed. There's everything you could need in the cottage, which is open plan both downstairs and upstairs, so it's delightfully light. Leading out from the bedroom is the wonderful 'luv tub', which is completely private. The surrounding countryside is just stunning. I would love to visit again as soon as possible!

The Mews is a perfect place for a relaxing weekend.

Firstly Katherine was amazingly helpful. From arranging our booking / being a superstar when we had a problem (meaning we had to alter our booking) to offering fantastic advice for our stay. Secondly The Mews is a beautiful cottage. It feels super cosy but has a touch of modern luxury too meaning it was just what we needed to recharge our batteries. Kitchen had everything we needed (plus fresh eggs and milk). I'd also recommend the Cream Tea Hamper! The hot tub was great fun, not only to be in, but to heat up as we got to chop wood and light the fire needed to heat it. It's positioned in away that allows for privacy but you can spend time getting to know the local cows and pheasants, which we loved! The surrounding area is fantastic. We spent time walking the coastal path and loved Wadham beach. Though the private Carswell Cove was definitely our favourite. I can't recommend Carswell Cottages enough and we will certainly be back!
