The rural village of Stokenham lies near the South Devon coast, in the county’s South Hams district. On the doorstep of Stokenham holiday cottages, the historic village centre is best explored by foot, with stone homes strung out along narrow roads, lined with hedgerows. The Tradesman Arms is a 14th century thatched inn where you can choose from a fine selection of local ales and enjoy excellent food prepared with fresh, locally sourced ingredients.

Towards the southern edge of the village, the Church House Inn is another charming pub, with a well-stocked bar and a menu of hearty pub classics. There are a number of interesting landmarks to look out for on self-catering holidays in Stokenham, including a graceful parish church which dates back to 1431. Just east of the church, Stokenham Manor House is believed to date back to the 12th century. West of Stokenham, Salcombe is a lovely resort on the estuary of the River Kingsbridge, with a sandy shore backed by green hills.

To the village’s east, Dartmouth is another charming resort with a 14th century castle, a theme park and a Blue Flag sandy beach. The rugged landscapes of Dartmoor National Park are a scenic drive northward from Stokenham.
