Recently-renovated Otter Cottage at Wheatland Farm has a cosy open plan downstairs with wood burner, flat screen TV and fully-equipped kitchen. A stable door opens onto a sunny terrace and private garden with views over the fishing pond. Upstairs, the double room has far-reaching views over both fishing and wildlife ponds, all the way to Dartmoor. There’s also a twin room and bathroom with bath and over-bath shower. You’ll find upcycled style throughout, including hand-made fittings crafted from recycled and reclaimed wood.
Otter Cottage is popular with couples and singles because the wood burner adds the perfect cosy touch to off-peak breaks (but if you don’t want the hassle of lighting a wood fire, don’t worry - there are electric radiators!). And fabulous local Devon food is on hand too. There are plenty of good pubs nearby. The nearest is only 2 miles away – you could even borrow a free bike to get there. Or you can have supplies delivered for your self catering holiday, whether from the farm shop half a mile up the road, a local online grocer, or even our friendly local wine merchant.
But Otter Cottage is also great for small families (sleeps 4) wanting a traditional farm holiday without the risks associated with modern working farms. Managed exclusively for wildlife, Wheatland Farm has 21 acres to explore. It’s your stay that helps pay for the farm to be managed as a nature reserve, so you’re contributing to this long term Devon conservation project just be holidaying here. Otter Cottage is named after the otter seen pilfering the pond one morning, though you’re more likely to see the kingfisher, the resident moorhen family, or perhaps a barn owl drifting over the fields at dusk.
Well-trained dogs (max 2 in this cottage) are welcome and there are plenty of nearby walks. The owners live on site and are always happy to help, whether with ideas for places to go or just with local tips on what’s happening and where’s great to eat.
Otter Cottage offers a genuinely green Devon holiday – as well as Wheatland Farm’s wildlife work, all your electricity is renewable (most generated on the farm) and your recycling is taken care of. Bikes, boats, BBQs are all free, and you can even take a free guided wildlife walk around the farm, which has twice won Visit England’s top award for sustainable tourism (2012 and 2015).

Thank you so much for your hospitality and for letting us explore and use all the facilities at Wheatland Farm. We have enjoyed our time here in this peaceful setting and the beautiful surroundings. You've made us realise we're only at the tip of the iceberg with our compost bins and weekly recycling habits - there's so much more! I think B... has already posted images on social media, and one of K...'s friends wants to book. We will carry on spreading the word about this wonderful farm! Thank you again.
It was my kind of place and my kind of holiday.

Thank you for a brilliant stay. It was my kind of place and my kind of holiday. Your hospitality was greatly appreciated, as were the wonderful logs you supplied for the woodburner! Wishing you all the best with the farm.
