Northend is a large holiday property offering pet friendly self-catering holidays for families and groups of friends The Farmhouse stands in an idyllic rural location in Thomas Hardy country, a mile or two inland from the beaches on the Dorset Jurassic Heritage Coast. It is perfect for all kinds of holiday with the family or friends, from a traditional seaside holiday to cycling and walking holidays exploring the beautiful Dorset countryside or the South West Coast Path. Other activities available nearby include sailing, golf, go-karting, horse riding and clay pigeon shooting.
The Grade II-listed Farmhouse dates from the 16th Century, with many additions over the years still to be admired today, such as the large inglenook fireplaces, the old bread oven and stone mullion windows, creating a real character property in a beautiful location. Old it may be, but it has been tastefully restored and equipped with all the modern comforts necessary to ensure you can enjoy a relaxing, care-free holiday in our corner of Dorset. Come for a long summer holiday, or stay for a weekend break with friends of family at any time of the year.
The Farmhouse sleeps 14 in 6 bedrooms arranged as 3 doubles, a twin, a four-bedded with twin and bunk beds and, for those preferring to avoid stairs, a ground floor bedroom with two orthopedic beds that can be put together for use as a double if required. This room has an adjacent wet room, while upstairs there are two further family bathrooms and one en-suite bedroom.
The house is not registered as disabled friendly, but in addition to the ground floor bedroom and wetroom, there is level access throughout the ground floor with plenty of turning space for wheelchairs.
Living facilities include two lounges plus a third snug lounge providing plenty of choices for times when not everybody wants to be in the same room watching the same programme together.
Catering for up to 14 guests means that the kitchen is amply equipped with appliances and utensils including a large twin over Aga together with an equally large gas range cooker.
All 14 guests can eat together in style, seated around a large olive ash dining table. This came from wood on the farm and was made by James Verner, a local craftsman.
The Farmhouse has an impressive 12m x 5m Great Hall with a massive stone Tudor fireplace which still houses an open fire – as well as a hidden stone spiral staircase!
An additional two guests can be accommodated in The Old Cricket Pavilion (it came from the Symondsbury Estate cricket ground), a wonderful cottage for couples surrounded by a mature garden 50m from the Farmhouse. It now contains a lounge/dining room with Freeview TV DVD and sofa bed, a small kitchen, a bedroom with King-size bed and a bathroom with a bath having an overhead shower. The lounge also has a sofa bed for additional guests.
Northend Farmhouse stands in a spectacular rural location, overlooking its own (securely fenced) lake with glorious rural views beyond. It lies within easy reach of seaside resorts such as Weymouth, Lyme Regis and West Bay, while the historic and attractive towns of Dorchester, Sherborne and Bridport are also recommended for those wishing to explore more of Dorset?s attractions.
Secluded, welcoming farmhouse, fab for a big group! by daisy bass on July 5th 2017
We were a party of 12 and found Northend farmhouse really magical in its position at the end of a long winding drive so near to the ocean and surrounded by fabulous walks with a plethora of lovely beached nearby. Eddie welcomed us and was there to help when we needed it even providing us with a few forgotten items along the way! There was plenty of space for the 12 of us, the decor is simple and homely with some lovely pieces of furniture and little details. We had a fab time and would definitely recommend it for big groups, its a great party house!

I had a wonderful relaxing week with my children and grandchildren. Beautiful countryside, beaches and plenty of interesting places to visit with something for everyone. And such an idyllic old farmhouse to return to at the end of each day.
