Offering wonderful coast and countryside views, cosy Creel Cottage has been beautifully furnished and equipped right down to a store of buckets and spades for children. As you enter the front door, just in case you a little peckish, there should be a homemade welcome cake ranging from a Victoria sponge, chocolate fudge cake, banana loaf, lemon drizzle or moist fruit loaf along with locally made ice cream in the freezer or fresh cream and strawberries to help you relax after your journey to Ross Bay.
The main living space is a spacious open plan area combining lounge, dining and kitchen area and warmed in winter with a Dowling multi-fuel stove (kindling, coal and wood included). You’ll find everything you’d expect in the kitchen to cook without compromise including an oven, electric hob, microwave, 4-slice toaster, coffee maker, fridge-freezer and washing machine along with a stack of cutlery, crockery, serving bowls and glasses.
A 'Just in case you forgot' box with things like dishwasher tablets, kitchen roll, cling film together with tea, coffee and sugar is one of the many little touches that has earned Ross Bay retreat such a good reputation.
In warm weather, throw open the French windows to let in the salty sea air, or sit out on the balcony with a glass of wine as the sun sets. Dine around the oak dining table, then relax together on squashy leather sofas watching TV, a DVD, reading books or enjoying a taste of nostalgia with a family board game. Outdoor tables and chairs plus a BBQ on the flagstone patio are there to provide outdoor dining during the long twilight evenings. It’s a great position for adults to watch children playing on the edge of the Bay. For families with pets, the garden is sufficiently secure to allow them outdoors without worrying they will disappear.
Beyond the house there’s the beach for beachcombing and rockpools for investigating.
A pair of Laura Ashley-style double and twin bedrooms with some adorable finishing touches are designed to offer a great night’s sleep in snuggly beds with luxurious mattress toppers and all-season duvets.
The family bathroom is equipped with a hand basin, bath with overhead power shower, heated towel rail and toilet. It’s also the location for a second ‘just in case you forgot box’ holds a supply of toiletries – hand wash, shower gel, shampoo, bath oil and loo roll.
While some guests may be content to laze away the days on the beach or balcony, other will want to explore the bay and woodlands on foot. Bring fishing tackle and a boat if you’d like to fish or sail. Venture a little further afield and visit the picturesque artist’s town of Kircudbright. Other local towns also have themes appropriately describing their appeal, with Wigtown being the ‘book town’ and, for shopping expeditions, Castle Douglas the ‘food town. And of course, there are many more beautiful beaches, country walks and beautiful views to enjoy as well.
