Property Details

Located in idyllic remote rural surroundings on the shores of Loch Bay (close enough to hear the waves splashing upon the shore, Dairy House is a spacious and pet friendly two-storey holiday cottage near Kircudbright in Dumfries and Galloway with two bedrooms sleeping five guests.

Take a seat on the window seat in the lounge and take in the superb sea view against a background of Miekle Ross and the distant Cumbrian Fells (also within day-trip range).

Just inside the front door is a spacious hallway with space to shed, store and dry muddy wellies, and/or damp coats, hats and gloves after a day in the great outdoors.

The largely open-plan ground floor living area contains a sitting room with comfortable leather sofas, flat screen TV, a DVD play and WiFi (please note that in remote rural areas such as Ross Bay, although reliable, it is not Superfast). In cooler times of the year, the Dowling Multifuel stove keeps the ground floor as warm as toast (kindling, wood and coal provided). You won?t feel cold in the rest of the house either: An environmentally friendly biomass central heating system ensures warm living spaces, bedrooms and bathrooms on winter days.

The kitchen is fitted out with Charles Rennee MacIntosh units and well-equipped with appliances and utensils including a new dishwasher, washing machine, fridge/freezer, microwave, toaster, coffee-maker, kettle and 4-slice toaster. It also has a lovely walk-in larder for storing all your food.

A separate Retreat Room just off the kitchen is truly a place in which to chill-out in the evenings, with two Ekornes Stressless recliner chairs with foot stools another Jazzy chair. Double French Doors open out onto the balcony large enough for seating and a small coffee table for times when you just feel like relaxing and soaking up the view and the fresh ? sea-salted air coming off the Bay. You?ll find life by the sea can be slow and rewardingly sopheric!

The three bedrooms on the first floor comprise a double (with king-size bed), a twin ? perfect for a family of three-four, or two couples and a single with full-sized bed.

Dairy House has two bathrooms, one on each floor, both with a wc, shower and basin. The upstairs bathroom also has a bath.

It?s not just the essentials that you?ll find in Dairy House that make it such a good place to stay. It?s also the thoughtful touches that make it such a pleasurable place in which to stay. Examples include our ?just in case you forget? boxes. One in the kitchen includes essentials such as dishwasher tablets, washing machine sachets, dishcloths, washing up liquid, tea towels, some tea, coffee, sugar, kitchen roll, cling film, kitchen foil. Another box in the bathroom contains some hand wash, shower gel, bath soak, shampoo, conditioner, and toilet roll. Sets of bath and hand towels are also included in the tariff.

Ross Bay Retreats may be in a remote location, but you can still arrange for Asda/Tesco to deliver their groceries just prior to arrival so everything is inside awaiting your presence.

As lovely as Dairy House and its location is, there are plenty of nearby places to fill your holiday with fond memories. Not for nothing is nearby Kirkudbright known as ?the artists town', with its many galleries and art/craft shops. In the same vein, Wigtown is referred to as the 'book town' and Castle Douglas as the 'food town'. Explore all three!

On arrival, you will be greeted by either a homemade chocolate fudge cake, Victoria sponge cake with fresh cream and strawberries, banana loaf or moist fruit cake, and a warm kettle to kick start your relaxing break. From Dairy House, you can gaze out at the sea by day and the stars by night while you contemplate what to explore next: the rock-pools, beachcombing, the woodlands on the hill, wildlife, sea fishing (bring your own tackle and boat!) or the best loved local towns.

Alternatively, spend days relaxing on local beaches, rock-pooling, beachcombing or, bring bikes, a boat or fishing tackle and put them all to good use in and around Ross Bay. There is plenty of parking for cars and boat trailers at the house, together with a lockable shed for equipment you do not need to store indoors.

The prices vary depending on whether 4 or 5 guests are occupying the house. The basic price is for 4 guests using all 3 bedrooms. For a couple, deduct 5% from the quoted price and a single person, 7.5%. If you are coming with a group of 5 guests, then add £20 to the advertised price.

As well as being child friendly, Dairy House is a pet friendly holiday home where up to two well-behaved dogs are welcome (please bring their bedding). We can lend you leads and towels for drying muddy or sandy paws and the rear garden is secure. An outdoor tap is available for washing down your pets as well.

We can also offer vouchers should you wish to gift a stay or a voucher of any value towards a stay at Dairy House to a loved one or friend who deserves a fantastic treat. Please just email or call me to discuss.
