When there’s just the two of you planning a rural escape in a quiet corner of The Cotswolds, you’ll find that dog-friendly Stable Cottage does rather more than simply fit the bill. This luxury Cotswold holiday cottage for couples (+ infants) in Oxfordshire, lies in the rural village of Salford near Chipping Norton. It may only sleep two in a super-king-size bed, but it marries a delightful spacious appearance with a warm cosy ambience thanks to its luxuriously designed interior and thoughtful finishing touches.
High beamed ceilings, a snug wood burning stove crackling away at one end of a lounge lit by a reclaimed street lamp, floor-to-ceiling bookshelves, soft white towels and bathrobes are a few examples that make this a memorable place in which to hide away for a few days. Relax on the sumptuous sofa with a glass of wine, adjust the lighting, watch the TV, maybe a DVD or go all nostalgic playing traditional board games.
All the accommodation is on the ground floor. It comprises a lounge with a high-beamed ceiling and an adjoining openplan, recently refitted kitchen-dining area. The latter is equipped with everything to create a culinary feast or just a 1st-class cup of Nespresso coffee.. Arrivals are greeted with a clutch of fresh locally laid free-range eggs, capsules for the coffee machine and a hamper hiding a range of local edible essentials. Other equipment included a DAB radio, microwave, kettle, toaster, plus shelves of more edible essentials such as salt & pepper, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, milk, tea-bags, sugar, coffee, cling film and tin foil.
The bedroom features a super-comfortable super-king-size bed, smothered with Egyptian cotton sheets, Hungarian goose-down pillows and duvet. There’s plenty of storage space, an electric clothes rack to dry off apparel after a day’s walking in the Cotswolds and other items such as a hairdryer. Being a one-bedroomed cottage, the bathroom with a shower, WC, basin and Bamford toiletries is naturally en-suite.
Step through the stable door to a sunny patio. On balmy summer evenings, this is the perfect place to dine outdoors using the gas range BBQ. On cooler evenings, light up the fire-pit for some natural warmth while you talk or quietly star-gaze.
Although a cottage for two, children are also welcome. There are highchairs and cots available, and the sofa can also be converted to a bed. There is no additional charge for children up to 2 years old. If needed a Nanny service can be arranged at £10 per hour. One dog is welcome at the cottage for a small charge of £30 (dog biscuits will be included in the welcome pack).
The beauty of the Cotswolds is well-documented, but for the unacquainted guide books and an OS map can be found in The Stables highlighting some fabulous destinations within easy reach, from idyllic country walks, to grand country houses (think Blenheim Palace), quaint tea rooms, country pubs, delicatessens, purveyors of fine wines antique shops and so much more.
