Comfort and homeliness in the cottage wrap you in ease and rest. The bedrooms are lovely, the star of the cottage is the delightful lounge which we all loved and spent a lot of time enjoying. Ashbourne, chatsworth, Macclesfield and Cheadle were our adventures. Christmas at Chatsworth is sensational! We hope to return.

  • "Slade Cottage is cosy, blissfully quiet, and well equipped."

It sits in an idyllic location with beautiful countryside all around. There is much to see and do in the local area, from scenic walks, good pubs, and historic sites. The owners are friendly but unobtrusive. They arrange nice touches for their guests including a delicious homemade cake left in the cottage. Although remote, the cottage has internet access and was easy to find using the directions provided. It was also very clean and tidy. Overall, we had a great stay at Slade Cottage and would happily recommend it to anyone looking to spend a relaxing time in a remote but easily accessible countryside location.

The kindest of people running it - John called us to make sure we drove the best route in inclement weather. Julie baked us the most amazing cake on arrival. The views from the property are immense - we enjoyed an amazing sunrise on my husband's 50th. The property has more utensils than my own kitchen! The living area is fantastic as were the bedrooms - we loved it! Definitely somewhere we intend to return to for a longer stay.

In a lovely remote location with plenty of walks on your doorstep. The cottage was very clean, seating & beds very comfortable & we had everything we needed for a wonderful stay. Plus the cake left for us on arrival was very nice. Unfortunately didn't get much chance to sample the outside seating. When we had a couple of queries, the owners were very quick to respond to our requests. Will definitely return - in fact did try to book for a Spring break next year but it's unavailable.

  • "Our short stay at Slade Cottage was nothing short of perfect."

The cottage itself was spotlessly clean, with everything you would require for a stay away from home provided. Upon arrival there was home made cake (which was lovely) and wine in the fridge! The beds were very comfortable. WiFi and phone service (I'm with EE) was very good. If you're there and have good weather there is an outdoor seating area with a BBQ provided. The garden and surrounding area (which you are quite welcome to walk around) are absolutely beautiful (and as far as I'm concerned, second to none). The area is well placed for a visit to Alton Towers or any of the surrounding towns (e.g. Bakewell or Buxton). John and Julie (the owners) are very approachable and nothing is too much trouble. This is the first place we have stayed in that I genuinely cannot wait to return to (and we definitely will be). I cannot recommend this place enough, go ahead and book it. You definitely won't be disappointed.

The place was exceptionally clean and obviously very well maintained. The weather was lovely and we did several walks from the cottage into the gorgeous countryside on the doorstep. Everything was very well explained and there was ample room for parking. The recycling station in a barn at the centre of the range of buildings was easy to use. The pretty cobbled sitting out area was very restful with comfortable furniture. An excellent place to stay and so nice to see our dogs enjoying running around and mixing with dogs belonging to other guests. Great place to stay and only wished we had been able to stay another couple of nights and days. PS, the welcome cake was delicious.

  • "Wonderful place, remote but in a great way."

It may help to have a welcome guide, letting you know a few things like where to get the wood and put rubbish, but we worked it out. Also maybe some details on walks from the property. The main thing I would change which a lot of properties get wrong is mugs too small and not enough of them. As a rule there should be at least double the number of people who can stay. E.g sleeps 4 need 8 mugs otherwise you spend all your time washing up just for a cuppa and bigger because after a good walk etc you need a decent cuppa

  • "What a wonderful cottage!"

! We had a lovely time in Slade Cottage which is decorated beautifully and probably the best cottage we have stayed at for facilities, seriously everything you could want is there, a proper home from home, even a smart TV for the rainy days of which we had a few!!! The layout of the property is lovely with the lounge on the first floor, we loved watching the birds and squirrels on the bird feeder. The Victoria Sponge on arrival was fabulous, never tasted a cake like it, thanks Julie!!! For dog owners like us the cottage is great, just one downside which was our fault as we didn't read the listing properly, the garden is neither private or enclosed so just something to be aware of if you have a grumpy dog like one of ours! This didn't cause an issue we just needed to be aware that the odd person has access to walk past the cottage. Slade Cottage is an annex of a larger rental property Slade House which again I wasn't aware of from the listing although the layout is as such that you still have maximum privacy and wasn't a problem at all. We will definitely be visiting again although next time we will consider staying at Slade House the larger property just for the enclosed garden. Thank you John and Julie for a fabulous cottage for our holiday and we look forward to seeing you again very soon.

Slade Cottage is in the perfect location. It is cosy with great use of the space to maximise the living areas. Extremely clean and well appointed. It has everything you need for a self-catering break. The cottage is annexed by another holiday let but we had total privacy and no outside noise. There is a great little courtyard which would be ideal for BBQs etc in the warmer months. All the properties on this site are visually stunning and the owners must work really hard to keep it so pristine. The wider area offer some stunning landscape to explore and has close access to The Manifold Way. It’s a winner for serious walkers and like us, less accomplished ramblers. Julie the host sent us a friendly, informative email before our break and left us a very tasty cake on arrival. Other than that, we were left to relax and enjoy our little holiday in this idyllic spot.

We enjoyed a complimentary bottle of bubbly whilst waiting for our Waitrose delivery. Slade House is the most tranquil & peaceful environment to truly unwind from a busy life. We enjoyed every aspect of the cottage from the cute little windows that let in winter air, to the fireplace with an abundance of fire logs set next to it. On our first night we went for an evening walk amongst the thousands of vividly bright stars, it truly is a magical place. The following day, the children played outside in a very safe environment. They enjoyed the company of two labradors, sheep, cows and acres of land to run around. We visited in the December month, during our stay John and Julie were extremely accommodating by erecting a Christmas tree in the cottage. The tree added to the ambience, and my younger daughter and Julie decorated it. I can’t wait to book next year's trip and enjoy Slade cottage once again.

However, an almost total lack of communication with Sykes has been hugely disappointing. I understand Covid-19 placed immeasurable pressures on operations, but I received no response to my emails requesting possible date change, accommodation change or cancellation. An automated response requested patience and understanding, which I gave, only to find the full balance was debited from my account without discussion. I was unable to get through via telephone (despite waiting for up to 50 minutes). Shortly before our departure, I finally managed to speak to a representative, to discover that emails regarding our booking had been sent to the wrong email address - human error on behalf of Sykes. I believe someone may have tried to get in touch as I received a voicemail three days before our departure - no message or apology, just a request to call back - which I tried but after 10 minutes wait, I gave up. A simple acknowledgement and apology that service provided was below expectations would have gone a long way. At no time has Sykes showed any interest in the fact that I requested a change to the booking. Dismal service.
