  • "We were overjoyed with this cottage!"

It was our first time away with our two pugs and can confirm that the garden is perfectly secure, which had been our main concern. On arrival it was lovely to see the Christmas tree inside. Truly a home from home, with a very well equipped kitchen and lovely bathroom. The cottage is a few minutes walk from everything and we had a really relaxing break. We hope to visit again in the future.

The cottage is always spotlessly clean and you're welcomed to the cottage with coffee, biscuits and lovely fresh flowers. It's so handy for walking down the road ito the centre of Ulverston or driving locally to Windermere, Coniston etc. Everything you need is in the cottage and it's dog secure. • "Great location just a short walk from Central Ulverston, lovely cottage, very well equipped."

The bedroom had space and furniture to empty our bags into the wardrobe drawers and a comfortable big bed (unlike some cramped places we have stayed where we lived out of the suitcase) Very suited for a pet, plenty of space for the pet crate. Parking was much easier than I was expecting from the description. And the coffee was excellent.

  • "This property is in a fantastic location for both getting out and about and just wandering into town."

The kitchen was well appointed and the bath was gorgeous, we both enjoyed a good soak while we were there. The tea and coffee left out for us on arrival was really appreciated and good coffee too (we went into town and bought some for ourselves before we left). There is no specific parking space, but we had no trouble parking the car just up the road in a convenient place. Getting into the cottage on the first day was easy and the instructions for use and leaving of the keys were clear as was the various leaflets and maps for things to do. I would highly recommend this place and a trip into the local town. The shop which sells the coffee has a space upstairs to eat in and the food and drink were delicious. The local pub just on the corner was also excellent and being so close is within walking distance so you can have an extra drink without worrying about driving home. We had a truly lovely week and I fully recommend this to anyone.

  • "Beautiful property everything you required and more was to hand, ideally situated for both town plus lovely walks."

However stepping from door step straight onto main road when you need to use both hands to open front door is a little nerve wracking whilst trying to hold onto the lead of a small terrier. Said terrier could also escape through holes in hedge at the back of the garden. (Only reasons this cottage was not ‘perfect’ in my review)

Decor tasteful and relaxing, wonderful bathroom to soak after walking and everything you need in a well equipped kitchen. Lovely views from rear garden which is enclosed and safe for dogs. Would not hesitate to recommend and still our favourite Sykes' cottage with a very courteous and friendly owner.

We didn’t spend much time there in the day but it was plenty big enough for the two of us and the dog. Perfect to walk into the centre for an evening meal we went to a couple of lovely pubs and the fish and chips were delicious. Everyone we met were very friendly and gave great suggestions for places to visit. Only downside is the front door opens straight out onto the road and it’s not very busy but the cars that did go up and down drove at a ridiculous speed which was a bit tricky trying to get out with the dog I feel they need speed bumps. Also the mattress was quite uncomfortable could do with a mattress topper. We had a lovely week and would definitely return.

It is a few minutes’ walk to the town centre and the cottage’s position gives lovely views from the back garden to Hoad Hill and the Sir John Barrow monument as well as over town cottages and houses below. The cottage itself is a stylish and well thought out conversion, where - thank you - things are easy to find and to use. It is light (lovely kitchen), warm and comfortable, and having Vicki next door with the keys or to answer questions is a bonus. Ulverston is great, a welcoming small town with individual shops, and we particularly like Gillams and The Mad Hatter cafes as well as The Northern Line gift shop. There are plenty of walks within the town, or to the coastline of Morecombe Bay along the canal, plus further afield along the Cumbrian Way. Car users are spoiled for choice - to the Dock Museum in Barrow, or up to the lakeside of Windermere and further afield.
