It is situated in a lovely peaceful village but a good location for going out and about. The house itself is absolutely stunning, theres a lovely big dining table in the kitchen and the living room is cosy yet spacious with a fire to keep you warm. The bedrooms are all adorable with incredibly comfy beds and plenty of extra blankets if needed. Deborah is so lovely and even let us go see the ducks in her garden. There were plenty of snacks and eggs from their chickens put out for us, including an extremely delicious cake! Comfy beds, a well-stocked kitchen / pantry, lovely views - I could go on. Owners Trevor and Deborah went out of their way to make us feel welcome, with personal touches like a homemade cake, card and flowers to greet us on arrival, but they were never intrusive and the cottage feels totally private while you're inside - the balance was perfect. The property was beautiful and the wonderful apple cake on arrival was just delicious. The owners were lovely and allowed our grandchildren to visit their ducks and chickens and also have fresh eggs, which they enjoyed. However, the property was not very clean, and many items were greasy and sticky. Cobwebs were all over the place, which was a disappointment. This did not affect our stay but the house could certainly do with a deep clean. On another note the frying pans were old and when used everything stuck to them as the non stick had worn off. We had a great holiday, loved the house, and enjoyed the area surrounding it.

Thank you for this feedback. The issues you raise will be dealt with straight away. We are very sorry your experience fell below our usual high standards. Kind Regards Trevor and Deborah Property Owner

The bedrooms were roomy, full of character with lovely uneven floors. The snug priced very popular with the grandchildren who could play games and watch TV away from the adults! An amazing real fireplace, which we lit whilst playing games in the evening, took centre stage in the spacious lounge. Surrounded by wonderful countryside, Winsham is close to the sea, whilst only being 3 miles from a main supermarket. Trevor and Deborah, the owners, live next door and were friendly and readily available should you need them. The only thing (which I mentioned to the lovely owners who live next door) is that on the picture booking details, it looks as if the garden is overlooked by another property. In fact it's part of Church Cottage itself which overlooks the garden. Log burner worked beautifully. The whole cottage was so comfortable.

Our hosts added lots of little touches to enhance our holiday experience. Old refurbished farm building. Modernised well but retaining its old world charm. Equipped with all utilities and appliances required for a stress free stay. Certainly one of the best holiday rentals we have undertaken to date.

The lemon drizzle cake and dog treats waiting on the kitchen table was a lovely touch and made us feel instantly at home. The cottage was immaculate, and a great place to stay, we would definitely come back here. Every little detail has been thought about and the household supplies cater for everything you could think of, and a whole host of things you haven't thought about. It really is a home away from home, and we were very sad to leave.

The lemon cake and free free-range eggs were an unexpected surprise, and very welcome! Very quiet location, and it was a joy to sit out and just listen to the birds sing. We had three generations of our family in the cottage and we had plenty of room for each to have their own space, as well as rooms where we could all be together. The cottage, which is most of an old farmhouse, really did sleep 8 (and our two dogs) in comfort. The bedrooms are all good sized, the kitchen table (in a beautiful farmhouse-style kitchen with Aga) seats 8, there are enough showers, it was easy to park our 4 cars either in the dedicated spaces or elsewhere in the village. We made use of the village shop and the pub (good Sunday lunch). Chard, only 4 miles away, is big enough to have several supermarkets as well as local shops. We used the cottage as a base to visit several coastal towns and Exeter; it was just an ideal location for us. The owners were friendly, efficient and helpful. We really enjoyed our week in the cottage & I highly recommend it.

  • "First time to ever book a rental cottage in the UK."

Found the cottage and Sykes through an online search. Booked in this particular location to be close to my Aunt and Uncle's country home for a weekend of wedding festivities for my cousin. Winsham is lovely! The shop folks were wonderful the three times we bought goods there, the church beautiful. We missed going to the pub, and wished there had maybe been another pub with longer opening hours, but otherwise we were charmed by the village. The cottage itself was beyond all expectations though very well described and pictured on your website. It was SO comfortable, SO beautiful, SO clean, and the owners SO welcoming. Our only regret was that we had three major events each day for the wedding celebrations in a village nearby so couldn't spend as much time at the cottage enjoying all the comfort as we would have liked. My brother, sister-in-law and niece from America were with us and were SO impressed. My husband and I, who live in London would like to rent the cottage again and bring his adult children along for a quiet family weekend. If we book another cottage or rental sometime the first place I will look is Sykes. Payment, confirmations, directions, etc. all top notch. Thank you!
