Convenient location for beach & moors & local food shopping. Handy dog park over the road. Parking space a hazard! The chain tripped me up on arrival & I was lucky not to break a wrist or rib. Weeds & nettles need clearing & chain removing. As it's dog friendly I suggest the occasional spraying of property with anti flea preparation. I found a flea on my dog (most unusual) after we left. May have picked it up elsewhere but unlikely. In spite of minor gripes I would definitely return & recommend to others.

  • "I was a bit concerned about the property before we arrived, based on other reviews."

However whilst I acknowledge the comments made about décor and furnishings, I think that it was in keeping with the age of the property, which is very spacious. There were no issues about the cleanliness of the property nor the equipment/necessities required for a homely and comfortable stay. Parking is a little awkward if you have a large car. Directly opposite the house is a lane into a small park, ideal for children and dogs as so close. Marske is a great location with all amenities and a great beach. We are regularly in Marske so will be looking to book here again.

  • "Cottage is in need of a deep clean, maintenance and money spending on it."

Outside needs maintaining, weeding, no room left in outside building for bikes as advertised, full of stuff! Bathroom blind should be binned, bathroom tap turns around when you turn it on, handrail coming loose, also key safe needs replacing as difficult to use. It's a shame that the owners are not keeping up with maintaining the property as it is spacious and ideally located, but looking back in the visitors comments book, looks like an ongoing issue!

  • "We had an enjoyable and comfortable stay."

The cottage could do with a little TLC around the house, e.g. a lot of the curtain poles were loose, and the front door steps need weeding but otherwise great location, but we hadn’t appreciated that the road it is on is such a busy road and the double glazing doesn’t seem to cut out the noise. However, the house is large and offers a great place to explore from. We loved the local area and beach.

  • "The location of the property can not be faulted , I think it should be highlighted more that the property is on a busy road ."

When the double glazed windows are shut its fine but open it is very noisy . Effort has been made with a nice new kitchen and new down stairs flooring , but still the same old fashioned furniture , saggy old sofa and overused mattresses . Most people would not choose to have any of the furnishings in there own homes - clearly charity shop purchases - who buys dark wood furniture these days . The space inside the property is more than sufficient and can not be criticised ,the outside yard is more than adequate - the exterior presentation needs some attention - front garden just full of dead flowers and weeds , out back also weeds covering the flower bed. , huge tall weeds growing on top of the wall - splitting the brick work . The internet is also a massive issue - the Smart TV is unable to connect to it so the choice of channels is very poor - multiple entries in comments book complaining about it - just sort it out . When the property is on offer at a discounted price I WOULD book again , but I would not be willing to pay full price again - there are many more properties now coming up for holiday rental in Marske which are way better presented and cared for than this one. I have stayed in this property several times before because for me the interior space suits my needs - however in a growing holiday rental market I think this property is going to need have more investment to keep up with its new competition soon .

  • "Lovely Victorian town house in great location for town & beach."

With a little bit of TLC it could be even better. Downsides, cleanliness was really not good enough, on one bed sheets had obviously been slept in and not changed, while before crockery was used it needed washing with food deposits left on plates etc. Comfort wise, mattresses were not in the best condition and would definitely benefit from renewal. Overall with these things corrected this would make a wonderful holiday let.

With high ceilings it felt very spacious for 3 adults and a dog and plenty of comfortable seating in the evening. It was well equipped, we had everything we needed. We found a quieter walk to the beach accessed opposite the cottage which suited our nervous dog well to be away from traffic and allowed a gentle entry to the beach. Easy walks along the beach to Redcar and Saltburn, road trips to the Moors and Staithes highly recommended.

Messaged key contacts who acted surprised and promised to contact the supplier but that was pretty much the extent of it. Booked the cottage as it had 3 bedrooms, dog friendly, location and as it had WIFI. The cottage isnt a 'wow' but perfectly fine, the road isnt as noisy as people have previously stated and parking at the back was okay but I found driving up and then reversing into the slot best as I started to 'ground' the underside of the car when going on forward. The furniture upstairs is very old, it works and serves its purpose but is outdated. There are loads and loads of pictures and paintings dotted around the property, not one appeared to be hanging straight ! The park over the road is great for the dog, supermarket really near and the village is lovely and its a good base to explore the local area. Will go to Marske again but would look at alternative rentals.

Apart from being situated on a very busy main road. Local buses run from Middlesborough to Whitby (and return) calling at all places on the way and are very cheap compared to other places (so you can give the car a rest and enjoy the views). • "A lovely cottage once we managed to get in (our problem - not theirs)!"

Despite it being on a main road it was quiet and the beds were comfy! The parking space around the back takes a bit of negotiating with other vehicles parked in the vicinity, but it is great to have a designated parking space right outside the back door! One thing we found strange was that we couldn't use the front door, which was a bit of a concern in case of fire, but the windows in the front room open and I guess that would be a way out! There was everything you need within the property and some nice places to eat close by! If you have a dog, then right opposite the house is a green area which our dog loved! Marske is a very nice place and the people are friendly! Its only a short distance from Redcar and the brilliant Saltburn! Petrol is be cheaper here than in the East Riding, which is a bonus! Overall, really enjoyed our stay! Andrea has done a brilliant job - it was the first time we had visited the area, but it won't be the last! Just a tip - if you rely on your phone for everything, just make a paper note of all the details incl the entry code and Andreas phone number, then you won't have the problems we did when my phone broke right outside the property! Thank you Andrea! xx

If you want the lap of luxury this is not for you - but the property is spacious and convenient for Marske and you can get to all shops and pubs in 5 mins . It has a handy parking space around the back but will only fit up to a medium sized car and does take a bit of practice swinging in . Directly over the road is a park so handy for the dog . About 10 mins walk to beach which is fantastic and the reason we come back . Tons of free parking up near the beach if you don't want to walk and also toilets there . We have been about 5 times to this property and I am comfortable staying there now - but I think they should invest in a new three piece suite and new mattresses - but the same can be said in many rental properties we have stayed in.

  • "We had a great holiday in Marske, such a lovely little place with very good local facilities and plenty to do in and around the area."

The cottage was much bigger than we had expected, and had everything we needed for a comfortable weeks holiday. The beach is about a gentle 10 minute walk away, and is spotlessly clean - you can walk along it to Saltburn in one direction and Redcar in the other, and both are worth the effort, Saltburn in particular is a lovely place to visit. Whitby is about a 30 minute drive away, and is as good you would expect but probably very busy. Car parking at the cottage is in a reserved spot behind the property, which is very useful - but be warned access is quite tight - we have an e-class coupe so not the biggest car in the world, but a reasonable size. So if you have a bigger car you might want to bear this in mind. All in all we had a lovely time and have no reservation in recommending Victoria Cottage to anyone considering a holiday in the area, especially if you have a dog who loves walking / playing on the beach.
