Warm welcome from the owner, helpful with advice when we needed it. Lovely location of cottage, very peaceful, in beautiful setting. Walks up into the hills from the cottage, where we didn't see anyone else. Cottage beautifully decorated and furnished, very warm and comfortable.

Mrs Read

The cottage was nice to come back to as it was cosy and the perfect place to unwind after walking or seeing other sites, at the end of the day. I liked the walks the area had to offer.

Miss Duerra

The cottage was very cosy. The location was very nice and beautiful situated. The surroundings were fantastic and it was a joy to stay here in the middle of nature. So peaceful and quiet. Lots of walks possible.

Mr Verstraten

A lovely, quiet cottage away from the hustle & bustle of the modern world. The owners were warm and welcoming - the cake, welcome tray and flowers were a nice, friendly touch. A great base for exploring this part of Wales and we would recommend Maes Coch as a great, cosy, getaway cottage set in lovely countryside.

Mr Lee-Van Den Daele

An excellent cottage and hosts in a quiet peaceful location. The provisions of milk, cake and flowers were very welcoming.

Mrs Czertowicz

The location was very special on a working sheep farm and the family could not have been more friendly and helpful.

Mr Lamb

The peaceful solitary position of the cottage and it's location close to mountain walks and beautiful landscapes.
The fact that it was located on a working sheep farm added interest.
The owners had made the effort to provide a private garden area next to a stream which was a lovely and appreciated touch.

Ms Jones

Absolutely wonderful cottage.

Mr Thurgood

It was lovely being able to walk to the top of Cader Idris from the Cottage. The location is beautiful and so quiet, a real rural retreat. We're normally cautious about staying next door to the owners but apart from welcoming us and letting us know they were there if we needed anything we didn't see the owners at all.

Mrs Brown

We had peace and tranquillity in a nice cosy cottage. The cottage was warm and comfortable, there was no need to use the car except for getting supplies. There was walking access directly onto the many footpaths on and around Cadair Idris, and easy access to cycle routes.

Mrs Parker

We particularly liked the peace & tranquillity of Maes Coch Cottage. We also liked the friendliness and helpfulness of the owners.

This cottage is suitable for people who like to get out of the rush of every daylife. It's peaceful and quiet up there. The location is perfect if you like to make walks. Around Dolgellau there are also lots of walks possible, just go to the tourist office. The westcoast of Wales is nearby to visit. Within an hour drive you find castles and there are interesting cities on the north side of Wales. A visit to Portmeirion, a village created in Itilian style, is a special discovery. Anyone who loves steamtrains can make a lot of trips in this region.

A lovely cottage miles from anywhere

Great getaway from it all - lovely idyllic spot

For anyone who really wants a totally secluded break away from it all this is the place to go. We hardly knew the owners were there. If you are staying there and don't intend going anywhere else for a few days, get your supplies in and you will be fine.
Also on the positive side you can walk straight from the cottage and onto Cader Idris which we did on the second to last day.

Just be aware that the drive up the hill to the cottage is not for the faint hearted but you do get used to it after a few days. Also be aware that the cottage is part of a working farm so there are sheep milling about in the fields but the lambs were great fun to watch in the evenings. The bird life was also amazing. There are also a few dogs in a kennel about fifty metres away from the cottage which did bark now and again, which could spoil the peace and quiet, especially when the rabbits hopped in to the yard where the dogs are kept.

wow what a beautiful place to stay

we were looking for a short break away from it all and we found the perfect place. The first drive up the lanes to Maes Coch was a little little hairy but you soon get used to it. We arrived after a long journey and at once loved what we saw. The lovely home made fruit cake and everything to make a cuppa were a lovely welcome and very much appreciated. The views all around the cottage are breathtaking, it is the perfect place for peace and quiet with Dolgelleau only a couple of miles away, the Eurospar Supermarket was very useful and there are also a good choice of eating places, takeaways and the usual local butchers greengrocers and coffee shops. You can find just about anything you need without going any further. We can highly recommend The Gatehouse Steakhouse and the Lemongrass resturants.Although the weather was unfortunately mostly overcast or raining we found plenty to do and see and found the incredible sights of North Wales breathtaking. Sandra and Reece are always happy to advise and point you in the direction of anything you would like to see and there is a good supply of information leaflets available in the cottage. This lovely cottage is clean comfortable and and just about anything you could need is supplied, including lots of little extra touches like flask and tupperware boxes perfect for packing a picnic, reading books and local history info. We had a wonderful time and particularly loved the waterfalls at Ganllwyd and the drive up to Gregennan. First visit to Wales and Maes Cotch Cottage but we most deffinately hope to be able to return in ther near future. A big thankyou to you all for making our all too short stay such a memorable break.

Comfortable cottage in a tranquil location within walking distance of Cader Idris

A converted barn attached to the main property that provides a warm and comfortable base to explore the region from. Its isolated location provides for peaceful relaxation, especially sat in the private garden area next to the gently flowing stream. It is possible to ascend Cader Idris by a little-used (and therefore; quiet) route directly from the cottage. Starting points for other high-level hikes and lower-level walks are very close-by. Finally, the warm welcome and helpful guidance make a warm start to the holiday. Ideal location, great value for money.

Excellent weather & location - peace & quiet. Negative point - having to come home!

Mr Good

Quiet location with easy access to high and low level walks of varying degrees of difficulty.

Mr Barge

A very warm welcome from the hostess, coupled with a bottle of milk and a cake!

Mr Thompson

The peace and quiet, the cottage and the views. We also enjoyed the cycle rides. The owner's family left you alone to get on with what you wanted to do but were there if needed. Good cover for the bikes. Our own little garden area opposite the cottage. The greeting of Bara brith and tea as a welcome. Altogether delightful.
