The gentle creek which winds its way through the centre of Wootton Bridge is a popular sailing spot, and the village is surrounded by picturesque walking routes. The Heritage Trail meanders through miles of unspoilt countryside, stopping at a series of fascinating historical landmarks. A holiday cottage in Wootton Bridge is perfectly located for strolls in Firestone Copse, where the island’s famous red squirrels are often spotted. You’ll also find a lovely pond, home to herons, egrets and kingfishers.

Wootton Bridge is small enough that you can expect everywhere in the village to be walking distance from your Isle of Wight holiday cottage. The High Street has a nice selection of independent shops, cafes and restaurants, many of which are known for serving fresh, local produce. For a pint of local ale, try the Sloop Inn, next to the bridge over the creek. Look out for the beautifully preserved ice house and St. Edmunds Parish Church, which dates back to the 11th century. Wootton Bridge is at the western end of the Isle of Wight Railway, providing visitors with the perfect excuse to climb aboard a classic steam train and enjoy a five-mile trip through breath-taking countryside, to Smallbrook Junction. Wootton Bridge is close to some of the Isle of Wight’s prettiest beaches. Woodside Beach is the closest and a lovely spot for a picnic. The Blue Flag Award-winning beaches of Springvale, Seagrove and St Helens are also nearby. The Isle of Wight towns of Ryde and Cowes are a short drive away, and well worth a day-trip from your Wootton Bridge holiday cottage.
