Nestling at the foot of Buckden Pike, near the head of Upper Wharfedale, this idyllic village makes the perfect place from which to explore the wonderful scenery and pretty villages of this magnificent Dale. Much of Upper Wharfedale is National Trust owned – an indication of the beauty of its classic countryside, with dry-stone walls and barns, important flower-rich hay meadows and valleyside woodland. Undoubtedly, this is one of the best walking areas in the Dales with The Dales Way passing nearby. The village itself comprises a cluster of stone-built cottages and houses with a traditional green at its centre. A perfect location for a holiday!

The cottage was one of the best we'd stayed in, really comfortable and with a lovely view of a stream and a waterfall from the living room.
by Mrs Bartlett on February 13th 2016
It was quiet and the location was lovely next to the stream. Mill Cottage was wonderful; really warm and cosy with everything we could want or need. It was an advantage having a washer/dryer as I didn't have to take dirty walking clothes home!
by Mr Quayle on September 21st 2015
The cottage was very comfortable, warm and spacious for the two of us and our dog. In a fabulous location in Buckden, surrounded by hills and walks from the door. It was handy to have a couple of friendly pubs on our doorstep! Served good food too.

A fantastic cottage in a beautiful location, perfect for a relaxing weekend in the dales. Great bathroom, kitchen and living room.
by Miss Weck on August 19th 2014
We enjoyed sitting in front of the fireplace after lovely walks during the day. We also enjoyed cooking for ourselves in the very well equipped kitchen and then having a nice Ale at The Buck Inn. It was very helpful to have free Wifi!
Lovely cottage by A FlipKey verified reviewer on August 17th 2014
Had a wonderful holiday at Mill Coottage, Buckden. A very cosy, well equipped cottage in a wonderful setting. Would have liked a shower as the bath is very difficult to get in and out if anyone has joint problems. We did not use the dishwasher as there wasn't enough crockery.
April 2014 by A FlipKey verified reviewer on August 8th 2014
What a fantastic cottage! Spotlessly clean, well equipped, beautiful location in the middle of Upper Wharfedale with a stream running past it. Cottage has everything you need, including WiFi which has been installed since we stayed the first time. However, with the Dales on your doorstep and all the wonderful walking, WiFi is not that important! An open fire is lovely for the chillier evenings. Our daughter loved the stream and regularly put her wellies on and went exploring for 'treasures'. Perfect, and we will go back for a third visit.
by Miss Williamson on July 26th 2014
We liked the location, excellent scenery and found it nice to have a pub nearby that served good food.
by Mrs Gee on June 22nd 2014
Mill Cottage is perfect and in a wonderful setting. The scenery is lovely and we found it all very relaxing and thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. The dog loved all the walks! This was our second visit to Buckden which is a lovely village and everyone is very friendly. The Buck Inn and West Winds Tea Rooms, both with very good food, are added attractions.
by Mr Hipwell on May 22nd 2014
In an excellent position for touring the Moors and walking, with many enjoyable holiday attractions within easy reach. The best holiday cottage we have had from you!

by Mrs Exton on November 22nd 2013
The cottage was warm and cosy, very welcoming, and we enjoyed the scenery and bird life. The fishing was excellent at Kilnsey, and we came home with many trout for the freezer. Definitely a place to return to!

Very comfortable bed. Efficient central heating, very cosy. Tasteful decor which suited cottage. Lovely location so close to stream.
Characterful cottage in a characterful village by Maria on August 30th 2013
Our stay in Mill Cottage was wonderful. We had some initial problems with the heating, but the owners got in touch within minutes of hearing about it. The peacefulness of the cottage and surroundings was accentuated by the bubbling brook alongside the cottage and terrace and the sound of the sheep that roam the surrounding hills. The cottage has all the amenities one could wish for. The location is great, and we loved our neighbours, the local pub, with free wifi, friendly service and good food. The village is very pretty, the surroundings beautiful. The local shop only has the very bare essentials, so pick up your groceries on the way to the cottage. That would be the only disadvantage.
by Mr Marshall on August 3rd 2013
The cottage was very comfortable, and in an ideal location.
by Mr Compton on July 6th 2013
The cottage was very clean in a quiet location, we had a great time.

Mill Cottage is a lovely property and a good base for those who like walks, close enough to larger towns to shop whilst still being far enough away to enjoy the countryside.
A very comfortable and delightful location by Dave Smith on August 20th 2011
Mill Cottage is a very comfortable place to stay, it is in a very good location for walking. Sadly the pub, 100 yards away, was closed. I understand it did open but closed again. There are good pubs within 2 miles, but it means getting the car out.
fantastic walking area by A FlipKey verified reviewer on August 18th 2011
A lovely comfortable warm cottage, a couple of negative points is there is no shower, and no sun shine in the evening, shaded as under trees. And the pub in the village was close. But the area was great for many lovely long walks with the meadows looking amazing.
by Mrs Gammon on June 20th 2011
Situated in a beautiful village, with many walks close by. The cottage was an ideal base.

Quiet corner in the Dales by A FlipKey verified reviewer on June 4th 2010
We had a lovely stay at Mill Cottage with a 10 week old baby; our first holiday away. The village is perfect for this type of holiday, with a shop, pub and tearoom on your doorstep as well as lots of accessible walks for all levels. Within easy driving distance there are plenty of interesting tourist days out.

Beautiful Yorkshire Dales holiday by A FlipKey verified reviewer on December 7th 2009
This was a perfect location for a walking and cycling holiday. We walked to Hubberholme, Kettlewell, Buckden Pike. Cycled to Starbottom, Grassington and Greenfields. The cottage was in a picturesque location with some good pubs within walking distance, and a couple of coffee shops and a convenience store in the village. The cottage was very clean and comfortable, lots of room and very well equipped. There was a really pretty seating area outside next to the stream. Unfortunately, we couldn't use it because of the swarms of midges at that time of year. We are looking forward to returning. This accommodation would provide a perfect location at any time of the year, and is probably lovely and cosy in winter.
The nicest cottage we have rented through Sykes Cottages by A FlipKey verified reviewer on December 2nd 2009
This cottage was absolutely perfect: a stream ran past both front and back doors, the decor was immaculate, the bed superbly comfortable and the deep rolltop bath an absolute boon after a day's walking. The kitchen was totally modern and well appointed, there were full instructions in the drawer about using the applicances - couldn't be better. The only disappointment was the local pub - the Buck - where the food was poorly cooked and presented, and the pub itself was over-lit and not very welcoming. Even the George at Hubberholme, although well known as a good local hostelry, seemed to have lost its vigour, and the food was again disappointing. The White Lion, up the hill from Buckden, was an awful lot better than its local rivals.
by Mrs Clark on November 17th 2009
Lovely cottage in a quiet location. Good walks straight from the door.
by Mr Watson on November 2nd 2009

by Mrs Thornton on December 12th 2008
We had a really good break at this cottage and enjoyed the snow as well. We were very comfortable. The log fire, the proximity of easy walks by the river, the village pub and village store were all a bonus. It makes an ideal retreat for 2 adults who like walking.
by Mrs Punter on September 2nd 2008
A homely cottage located in a picturesque village. The fact that the cottage was so well appointed was a joy but the icing on the cake was that it was so clean! Our first visit to the Yorkshire Dales but definitely not our last. We will be back!
