The large holiday properties at ‘Mel House Cottages’ are set in a picturesque village in the North Yorkshire Moors National Park overlooking just under 5 miles due north of the busy market town of Pickering. Guests have exclusive access to their private leisure facilities – an indoor heated swimming pool, spa, and sauna.

Children and dogs are welcome, and there are paddocks plus stabling on a DIY livery basis for those wishing to bring their horses on holiday here. Additionally, ‘Mallard’ and ‘Swift’ (with wet rooms) are accessible to wheelchair users, and ‘Owl’ suits those with mobility impairment.

The holiday properties are in the heart of our attractive and unspoilt village, overlooking the village green and its duck pond. A children’s play area is nearby, as is the village pub, which serves food.

If you aim to relax in the peace of the more remote areas of the North York Moors, just head due north from our village. In about 3 miles, you’ll be passing through Cropton Forest—where you could wander all day and see just pheasants and deer (if you’re lucky!)—and soon be crossing a ford on a road that, whilst having a tarmac surface, doesn’t appear on some maps. It’s very special in England’s largest expanse of heather moorland!

When you’re ready to undertake a car journey, in less than 40 minutes, you’ll reach any of the popular coastal towns of Whitby, Scarborough or Filey and the historic City of York.
