About the locationCHATHILLBeadnell 3 miles; Alnwick 9 miles.Chathill is a small rural hamlet comprised of little more than a farm and a few houses. It is sited only 3 miles from attractive and peaceful Beadnell, which lies on one of the most beautiful stretches of Northumberland's magnificent Heritage Coast. Once a smugglers’ haven, Beadnell is now a fishing village, popular with holidaymakers who come to enjoy its pretty harbour. Central to all rural North Northumberland and within easy driving distance of the nearby glorious sandy beaches between Seahouses (where boat rides can be booked for the spectacular Farne Islands) and Bamburgh Castle, Alnwick, Holy Island and the Scottish Borders, there is plenty to see and do.

The cottage was in an excellent position for touring the places of interest, coast and country, by car. The owners were friendly. The small patio area at the front was lovely to sit in. We had a disabled person with us and he was very impressed with the facilities in the en suite bedroom.

Nice Place by ken h on October 2nd 2014
Stayed here 6th September for a week what a great location very handy for Seahouses , Holy Island , Berwick on Tweed , lots of castles to see and a must visit to Cragside House NT. It is close to Chathill railway station and crossing but not a problem. The rooms are very spacious upstairs bedroom has its own bathroom across the hall with bath and very large walk in shower, similar the downstairs room has en suit facility. A very nice gesture was the milk and a cake when we arrived. Thanks to Mrs Russell. Would recommend this holiday cottage.
by Mrs Collyer on September 23rd 2014
We received a warm welcome from the owner with a lovely cake. The property was always warm and this was especially appreciated as the weather was less than warm - all fog and drizzle. The cottage had plenty of space for two couples and was conveniently located with easy access to both the A1 and the coast.

The National Trust coast, Farne Islands, Lindisfarne and the coastal walks, a beautiful area.
by Mrs Norfolk on September 10th 2014
It was a good size for two of us with a lovely size sitting room. The books were great, off road parking and a warm welcome from owners. Paintings done by owners were displayed in the cottage. Lots to see and do in the area. We ordered a Tesco delivery for about an hour after we had arrived. This came on time and gave the basics for the week.. Local shops were a few miles away and it saved us going out again before our evening meal.

Friendly and helpful owner. We liked the layout of the property. Access to beautiful and varied countryside.

It was just what we were looking for. We were made to feel at home and it was very handy for sightseeing and beaches. It had everything we could have needed to make us comfortable and our dog was made welcome too.
Quaint pet friendly cottage close to coast by Christina Y on June 24th 2013
We had a great week in this very comfortable cottage everything we could want was to hand, Mrs Russell even left us a home baked lemon drizzle cake, milk, tea, coffee etc., we had brought our own but it was all there if needed. The cottage was right next to the railway crossing but we soon got used and didn't really notice the frequent trains whizzing past. The coast was just a short drive away and we visited all of the little towns and villages and Lindisfarne (Holy Island) even ventured up to Berwick-upon-Tweed. Sight seeing and beaches make this a great place for a family holiday and the house had books, videos, games all making sure a rainy day would be catered for although we had wall to wall sunshine and the sun porch entrance with it's little table and chairs made an ideal place for breakfasting. Mr Russell is an artist and we enjoyed a look round his studio he's a very amusing man. The bedrooms were separated from the rest of the house and therefore quiet, a twin upstairs with it's own bathroom with walk in shower and jacuzzi bath was very comfortable and the downstairs double with an en-suite bathroom was also comfortable when our friends joined us later in the week. We will definitely consider a return visit.

I knew the area and Ivy Cottage was an excellent central base. The owners are extremely helpful and considerate owners. This is my first experience of Sykes and I am impressed by the overall service.

Lovely, warm welcome by the owner and delicious cake. Central position of the cottage, it is only about half an hour from some lovely scenery and castles!

This was our second visit to Ivy Cottage and was once again a happy experience for us as a family. A friendly welcome from the owners and a comfortable stay in a warm and cosy cottage. Northumberland is a beautiful area to visit and I would not hesitate to recommend this property.

An enjoyable, relaxing holiday by Mrs Chris O on September 23rd 2011
The owners were very welcoming, friendly and approachable.Kitchen well kitted out with utensils etc. It was kind of 'home from home'. Good to have a supply of leaflets about the area as it was totally new to us. Especially helpful was the information sheet listing the various churches with contact numbers so we could contact someone to find out if it was the kind of Church we would enjoy.(and we succeeded!) It was a quiet place in the country so there weren't any local amenities but it was just right for us. Lots of castles to visit and the boat trip to the Farne Islands was brilliant. Only one negative - the wireless reception was very weak except in the entrance hall but this was adequate for our 19 yr old son's usage.
Hoping to book again next year by A FlipKey verified reviewer on September 16th 2011

by Mrs McGuckin on July 13th 2011
The standard of the property was good, the welcome and support was much appreciated and our dog was also warmly welcomed. We knew the area and had a pleasant time.
by Mr Cole on July 11th 2011
Made very welcomed on arrival by the owners with homemade cake to go with our first cup of tea! Location suited our needs. The overall quality of the accommodation was excellent. Though located very near a railway station, the noise did not seem to be very noticeable at all. Visited the Studio & enjoyed the company of the owners and sad to leave on our departure - Hope we can book this time next year - Many Thanks
by Mrs Elsmere on June 3rd 2011
The owners of the cottage live in the adjacent part of the house, they could not have been more helpful or friendly. It was great having them so near to make suggestions and help at any time. There was plenty of space in the cottage with 2 reception rooms and 2 bathrooms. The kitchen was exceptionally well equipped. There were also 2 TVs and masses of books, jigsaw puzzles and videos.
Warm, comfortable and friendly by A FlipKey verified reviewer on January 15th 2011
Very quirky but cosy cottage. Plentiful supply of books, videos games etc for rainy day. The owners were very friendly. Only one small complaint (as a non-pet owner) was the smell of animals inside the property. If pets are allowed in the cottage then perhaps a little more thorough cleaning is required.
Last minute success by A FlipKey verified reviewer on November 11th 2010
I was looking for a last minute break to somewhere near alnwick and found this. Although the owners were away, their arrangements with the neighbours for welcoming and looking after us worked great. The house is very comfortable and warm, good amenities and a great location for getting out and about in Northumberland. For our toddler, the mainline railway 50 yards from the house was a highlight - he loved watching the trains. If you aren't used to the noise of trains going past, you might not enjoy it. The beach at Beadnell is only 3 miles away. Buckets and spades were provided! You need a car to make the most of this location - quite remote. Overall, this was a great place for a break.
by Ms Mills on November 10th 2010
The cottage is well situated for visiting the various places in the area. Very cosy and the owners were friendly and helpful.

The warm friendly welcome; the dog friendly beaches; the beauty of the whole area and the location of our property was excellent for visiting the tourist attractions. Our most relaxing Holiday to date - very sorry we only booked one week. My daughters (11 and !4) enjoyed Art lessons from the owner and we now have two beautiful watercolours to hang.
by Mr Lloyd on August 21st 2010
We liked the location, cordial welcome, and dog walking facilities.
