Romantic Haughton Castle, a Grade I Listed building, dates back to 1260. The Castle faces parkland on one side, and a spectacular view across farmland with the North Tyne below on another. The pet-friendly Farmhouse is one of four estate cottages providing a charming and comfortable rural retreat near Hexham.
Cottage visitors may walk on the Estate land and particularly along the two miles of the North Tyne River which is part of the estate. Please avoid the areas marked and in front of the castle. Although the Castle is not open to the public, the owner is happy to sprovide private tours for guests subject to it being practicable at the time.
Haughton Castle Farm House is situated upriver on a very small, quiet public lane approximately half a mile from the entrance to Haughton Castle. This warm and welcoming Hexham holiday cottage has an elevated riverside position approx 40 metres from the River Tyne. The attractive stone Farm House has lovely views over pastures and woodland down to the river and is centrally heated throughout. The lawned garden area has garden furniture, a barbecue and overlooks the river North Tyne, with attractive riverside walks. There is a second sitting area on the other side of the house with patio equipment.
Guests may walk on the Estate Land and along the 2 miles of North Tyne which is part of the estate, we do however request that the owners privacy is respected. Golf is available nearby at Bellignham Golf Club, Bellingham De Vere Slaley Hall Golf &amp; Country Club, Slaley and Hexham. Fishing is available by arrangement with the owners. There are a wide range of Historic houses within the area such as Cragside, Rothbury, Wallington Hall, Morpeth, Bamburgh Castle and Hadrian&#39;s Wall. A well stocked village shop and local public house can be found in Humshaugh, one mile with the nearest supermarkets Waitrose and Tesco available at Hexham just over five miles.
