Roscommon

An inland county in the west of Ireland with the inevitable charming historical places of interest to see, watch and do and a great way to visit this county is to stay in a Rosscommon country cottage rental - ruins of ancient churches and monasteries, lakes and rivers, villages and market towns - Boyle, and Loughlynn, to name but three. The town of Roscommon has a 13th century castle, ruined in the 17th century in battle, while Strokestown has a famous Famine Museum at Strokestown Park House, and also organizes an International Poetry Festival over the May Day Bank Holiday weekend. Castlerea is the ancestral land of the O'Connor Clan, who were Kings of Ireland. Their family history, written up in 10,000 manuscripts dating from 75 AD, are in the archives at Clonalis House.
