Property Details

The picture postcard cottage of The Old Post Office, is set in the heart of rural Somerset yet because it is close to the M5 and A303 it means you can get there in a couple of hours from London and gives you great access to all of the South West. The Jurassic Coast and historical town of Lyme Regis and the South Devon beaches are within an hours drive.

The cottage is set in a small village and a short walk away is the pretty village of Barrington which hosts the National Trust house Burrington Hall which recently featured as the title residence in the BBC drama, Wolf Hall. It also has a great pub The Barrington Boar.

The cottage itself is an old post office and still has many original features and the classic thatched roof. You enter from the rear of the cottage via a pretty courtyard, into the kitchen, which has everything you need for a family holiday, including a dishwasher and large range cooker and micro-wave. Off the kitchen is a utility room which has a large fridge-freezer and washing machine. In the corner of the kitchen overlooking the courtyard is a table and chairs ideal for sunny breakfasts.

Beyond the kitchen is a large family bathroom with bath and separate shower cubicle, plus loo and sink. The two reception rooms, lounge and dining room are on the left and right moving through the house. The dining room has a large, old, dining table and 6 chairs, perfect for family entertaining. Opposite the dining room is a large lounge with 3 large comfy sofas, an open fire and Blue-ray TV and DVD.

Upstairs are the three bedrooms; The master bedroom has a large double bed and original beams plus a flat-screen TV/DVD. The second double is a bright and spacious room with petite fireplace and pine furniture. Finally the twin room has two single beds.

Outside the cottage has a very large garden with pretty boarders and wooden garden furniture, ideal for children to play and fairly secure for dogs. Behind the cottage is a charming secrete garden that is usually locked but can be accessed with a key. It has a small pond and many shrubs and quiet seating area perfect for some chill-out time.
