  • Bedrooms: 4
  • Bathrooms: 4

If you are looking for a perfect seaside location for relaxing holiday with friends of family in Suffolk in a gloriously tranquil setting, yet with all the amenities of a bustling town nearby, then The Watch Houses completely fit the bill. With only a low-lying cliff edge and a near private beach separating you from the ocean waves, you can enjoy the changing light of Suffolk's huge skies, experience spectacular sunrises and sunsets, hear the sounds of the sea and appreciate nature at its most idyllic.

The Watch Houses comprise two detached beach houses that can be booked separately or together. Use the 'Book Now' or 'Visit Website' buttons on this page to book one or both cottages.

The Watch Houses name dates back to World War II. Royal Navy Wrens used them to listen out for German submarines patrolling the east coast. Both of these Suffolk beach houses have been finished to a very high standard. They offer clean and luxurious contemporary styling that is the perfect complement to the huge views of sea and sky from the windows.

'The Listening Station' has views towards the cliffs and beaches of Clovehithe, while 'The Watch Room' looks out onto Southwold's iconic pier. Each property is of the same design, comfortably sleeping four in two double bedrooms. All the bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms and the two bedrooms in each property are linked by a modern living and dining area.

Spend the morning just gazing on the amazing birdlife just outside your windows, then wander down to Southwold and browse the boutiques; you might end up buying some of the local catch for a mouthwatering supper. There is easy access to the quiet, peaceful beach just a 5 minute walk along the cliff. You will find plenty to keep you entertained beyond Southwold too. From stately homes including Royal Sandringham, through to boating, surfing, golf and more, you can be as lively or as relaxed as you want to be.

The Listening Station (sleeping four guests) accepts one well behaved dog and The Watch Room (sleeping four guests) is pet free.

Attractions and nearby amenities

The Watch Houses are ideally situated for you to stroll out onto Suffolk’s tremendous coastline, with its sandy cliffs, dunes, bays and creeks. The coast stretches for 40 unspoilt miles or so, with many well-managed and award-winning beaches.

Southwold is just a 15-minute walk or 5-minute cycle ride away from the property. As well as having an award-winning beach, Southwold offers plenty of galleries, shops and pubs. You can also buy freshly caught fish here.

From Southwold, you can take a ferry out to Walberswick. The town is most famous for its crabbing. Make sure to return any crabs you catch back into the water.

There are some superb historic buildings worth visiting nearby, including the late 12th century castle in Framlingham. Dating back to the 14th-century, the remains of Leiston Abbey are very evocative and are some of Suffolk's most impressive ruins.

Adrenaline junkies will find plenty to like here too. Try a 'Drive of Your Life' experience aboard the high-speed RIB Coastal Voyager from Southwold, or you can learn to surf in the rolling waves on Southwold beach.
