Exploring the village from your Box holiday cottage, you will notice several historic landmarks, including a 12th century parish church. There are a variety of businesses in and around Bath Road, including a post office and a grocery. In the heart of the village, a stroll away from holiday cottages in Box, The Queen’s Head is a charming, old pub with good food and a selection of local ales. Just south of the village, Kingsdown Golf Club is home to an excellent course. The city of Bath is a short drive from Box, and reserving a full day for exploring its Roman-built Baths, abbey and fine, Georgian architecture is highly recommended. A little further west, Bristol is a lively city with plenty of independent shops, galleries, museums and live music.
The unspoiled countryside of Wiltshire is scattered with more stone circles and ancient barrows than anywhere else in the country. Stonehenge is a scenic hour’s drive east from Box. Directly to the village’s north, the Cotswolds are home to peaceful hills and meadows, dotted with manors, castles and villages. The hilly countryside of the North Wessex Downs lies a few miles to the east of Box.
