A very comfortable cottage

The cottage was excellent, especially the kitchen and bathroom. Other rooms old fashioned but in keeping with the cottage. The TV needs updating as the reception was poor. Needs to have freeview to give more choice. Curtains in twin bedroom could be darker as there is a street light right outside. Good location for the town. Parking sometimes a problem.

Nice cottage but surprisingly busy location

We recently booked Knoll cottage for a week over my husband's Birthday and our 10th wedding anniversary.
Due to this double celebration, we did a lot of research into booking somewhere that sounded very special in an area that sounded perfect for walks with our 2 dogs. Upon arrival in Bakewell it took us quite a while to locate the cottage, which is situated on a busy road and offers no safe place to unload. The parking really is an issue, it was very limited and is located up a steep hill about 5 mins walk from the cottage. The space is not guaranteed and Bakewell gets very busy!
Once we got into the cottage, we were very impressed by the beautiful bathroom, well equipped kitchen and comfy double bedroom. The front downstairs room are quite gloomy and the TV currently only has 3 channels.
It is a nice cottage, however we felt the advertising photos were a little misleading as the road is busy and it is overlooked.

Knoll Cottage Delight

Mom Dad and 16 year old daughter travel to England to spend one week in the countryside and one week in London...our stay in Bakewell and Knoll Cottage was in one word...perfect! Knoll Cottage is the cleanest rental we have ever stayed in. Everything was in great working order. Truly the nicest home away from home ever! We will return to Bakewell and Knoll Cottage!!

Lovely cottage in need of a bit of TLC

This beautiful little cottage is idealy situated within wonderful Bakewell. Cleanliness wasn't fantastic as dust was present on some surfaces and there was an old cobweb on the ceiling above the bed. We were frustrated with the fact that the toilet was difficult to flush properly even though a previous guest had mentioned this in the comments book several months earlier. We were also disapointed that the whirlpool bath didn't work. A "sorry, out of order" sign would have been apreciated. All this cottage needs is a bit more attention to detail to make it a 5/5 place to stay.

Delightful cottage

This was our second stay this year at Knoll Cottage, having had it for a week in April.

As we were staying over the Christmas week it had been tastefully decorated for Christmas which was lovely and homely and made us feel all the more festive.

The cottage is on a busy road and unloading the car with luggage etc can be an issue as it is up a hill just on a bend, good idea to take an emergency triangle with you if you have one and put it about 20 yards down from your car as it certainly slows the traffic and makes them aware that your are there. There is enough room to bump up on the footpath too so you are not entirely on the road.

The cottage is very well equipped with all manner of cooking utensils and with lovely matching crockery that is in good condition, not chipped or cracked. It is also very warm and whilst there is a wood burning stove we didn't need to use it as we were always more than warm enough.

There is a small courtyard, alas we couldn't get our dogs to go out there and do anything so that was a big issue for us, as there is nowhere nearby to take them for the first and last ablutions of the day.

There is a large bathroom with a good showers and jacuzzi bath and the two bedrooms are good sizes and really tastefully decorated.

It is a 5 minute walk into the town centre, if you are in anyway physically challenged, walking back up to the cottage may be prove challenging as it is up a hill.

With regards to parking, you do get given a permit and parking is available at the back of the church, best way to get to it is go past the cottage, on your left, turn in Yeld Road about 100 yards up from there and as you head back towards the cottage take the left hand slope which is the road at the back of the church, up there is parking for permit holders.

One thing it could do with is the front door having a lick of paint as it does look a little tired and could give a poor first impression and certainly isn't the case once inside.

Well equipped cottage in a charming town.

We spent four nights at Knoll Cottage, which we found to be very well equipped with all appliances in good working order. The bathroom was lovely, spacious and warm with a large supply of towels!! The double bedroom had twin aspect windows which made it a very pleasant sunny room.
Parking is always a bit difficult in Bakewell and we decided to park on Yeld Road, which is the 1st left turning uphill past the cottage and we walked our cases down from there. The road is fast and busy at peak times and school coaches use it twice a day so I wouldn't like to try and load or unload outside the cottage.
Bakewell is a charming little town with lots of dog friendly pubs and coffee shops. We also went to Chatsworth which was really lovely and that is well worth a visit. The weather was very good while we stayed there, for October, and we were able to eat outside the pubs and enjoy the sunshine. The only disappointment was the courtyard, which although south facing got very little sun at all probably due to the large and thick trees in the adjoining garden. My little dog was not at all happy out there and this was a bit of a problem first thing in the morning. However, it is not far to walk into the town and there is a large park by the river.

Some plus points, but getting tired

I have been staying in cottages in the UK in Mach/April for 25 or so years. In the past I have been interested in remote locations, but now I have a child I decided to go for a location within a town, which seems to put the cost up and brings its own problems, such as a lack of parking and noise from the road outside.

Knoll cottage delivered on the location, with the town only being a short walk away, and the museum is even closer. There is a good supply of towels and also a good boiler giving some of the hottest water I have ever come across. All the equipment worked, although I would have thought that a folder with manuals in would have helped. Last year I was spoilt when the cottage I was staying in had free wi-fi and a computer - no such luck this year.

My overall impression is that the cottage became a holiday let around 2004 and that it is now beginning to be in need of a refresh. There are awards from 2004 and 2005 on display - but tellingly none since, and also no comments book. The front door needs some paint and there are signs of dampness on the walls, my wife has a more sensitive nose than me and said that there was a smell of dampness too!

On balance I would have been happier if I had paid less.

In need of regrading not worth 4 ticks !!!!!!!

Main issue parking, none outside residence or near , but up side road opposite( having to ascend or descend approx. 20 steep steps) then only if available otherwise 2 hr. limit 8.00-8.00, other end of road more permit places but again all taken in other words permit useless. Problem unloading and loading as road on bend, on hill, potentially dangerous position but no choice if elderly or infirm.
The exterior paintwork is flaking and need of redecoration, on entry you are greeted by a damp smell inside, windows dirty between windows and secondary glazing and with dead flies and insects present, loose mats on living room and bedrooms without non slip grips ( Slip and trip hazards.), Bathroom wallpaper lifting off wall, wooden cladding lifting off wall, boiler cupboard situated directly above w/c pedestal and low awaiting head injury. The whole property is drab and in need of TLC don't think had much in years. Kitchen and Living Room reasonable but not great. Courtyard more like ancient prison cell with no roof , app 4.0mx 4.0m containing 2 drains and a dustbin with ladders tied against soil waste pipe, not a place to enjoy an evening tipple as stated and our dogs also refused to use it so not dog friendly.
No information pack was available for Doctors, Vets, Dentist, Shops, Restaurants and Pubs etc. No visitors book was available to comment in, wonder why? This is my worst cottage experience ever, I only stayed one night having booked for seven my Wife was so disgusted she didn't even unpack our belonging usually her first task. I don't know how the owner has the cheek to display Gold Award Certificates from 2004 and 2005 in the dining room on the sideboard. No Gold Award from me, owner could do a lot better.

Disappointing!!

If all you want is a place to rest your head then Knoll Cottage is fine.!!!
The whole of the downstairs is very disappointing. The pictures are very misleading, think they must have been taken years ago!! Jaded and tired are the words i would describe.
I think the owner should spend some money !!

Good location, poor cottage

wchalkey

Very disappointed on the standard of cleanliness!

This is the first time in 9 years staying in holiday cottages , that we have had to clean the kitchen and bathroom on arrival . We made a choice to eat out all week which made our stay much more expensive. An unloved house in a beautiful area .

shirleysyme

Very nice cottage with a great BBQ.

Mr Dalgleish

Beautiful location near shops and pubs. Close to many beautiful sites and stunning nature walks.

Mrs De Wolf

The cottage was very well stocked and well situated.

Mr & Mrs Causer

The central location of both the cottage and Bakewell for the Peak District

Mr Williams

Location was great enabling us to be very close to the town centre but on the doorstep of the 'great outdoors' for walking and cycling.
Your office was very helpful and efficient.

Mrs Williams

Great care has been taken by the owners to provide lovely home comforts. Fabulous cottage all round.

Oxberry

Had a wonderful break, cottage was warm and cosy, excellent.

Mrs Gould

Excellent standard of accommodation, lovely and cosy. Thoughtful extras were much appreciated. Christmas decorations and tree were a lovely extra touch!

Mr Sherwood

A beautiful cottage, home from home - would definitely recommend and visit again.

Mrs Brindley

Knoll Cottage, the town, the information provided about the area and the butchers shop.

Mr Reay

Brilliant cottage in fantastic little town of Bakewell. Would recommend to anyone.

Mr Cawthorn

A very central property, great for getting out and about. All attractions less than 30 mins away. The 'Bakewell Old House Museum' is a must for all ages; only 5 mins walk from the property.

Mrs Wood

Very well positioned cottage of a very high standard. Very welcome to find somewhere so good that also allows dogs.

Mr Davies

Easy walking distance to Bakewell town centre. Everything provided such as kitchen roll and dishwasher tablets so we didn't have to do any 'household' shopping.

Ms Hansbro

There is everything you will need at cottage except a needle and cotton. Everything is excellent, cant fault it and lovely and warm. Was there December with all the snow - no problems.

Mrs Wilson

Knoll Cottage was so warm and welcoming. Very convenient for the shops, food and walks. The owners had provided everything we needed for a comfortable stay including a generous amount of towels.

Mrs Gotobed

Central location for traveling within the Peak District. The cottage is ideally situated in the town with plenty of excellent pubs and restaurants, and providing the opportunity for evening strolls. Walks in the area were plentiful and varied in nature.

Mr Webb

The central location of the cottage. Very well equipped and spotlessly clean.
Extra touches such as milk on arrival made the cottage more welcoming.

Mrs Press

Great cottage, comfortable, well equipped, good location although at top of fairly steep hill from town. Bakewell is a fantastic town with lots to do and good places to eat.

Mr Hortin

We had a fabulous time, our every need regarding the property was catered for. Well done and keep up the good work!

Ms Edwards

Knoll Cottage was very clean, warm and comfortable. It's location was perfect too, being a five minute walk into Bakewell town centre.

Mrs Whittle

Comfortable cottage with all mod cons. Excellent base for Peak District walks and Bakewell is a lovely town.

Mr Hymers

I just love the cottage - and the area of the Peak District, it is my second visit to the cottage and I have already booked and paid for next year.

Mrs Murray

The cottage was dog friendly and within walking distance of the town. We had already booked it for Christmas week so this was a trial run to see how we got on. The standards were very high.

Mrs Broadbent

Great location. Friendly people in Bakewell. The cottage was very cosy, felt like a home from home. Already booked and paid to stay there again. The cottage was well appointed with superior bedding and towels.
Not often you get such a lovely dining room in a 2 bed cottage.

Mrs Lee

The cottage was first class and one the best we have stayed in. On top of this the extra bonus was its location in being so central for Bakewell town centre.

Mrs Noble

We enjoyed relaxing and having pleasant walks in lovely villages and surroundings. It was nice to have the cottage to come back to after a day out. Everything we needed was supplied and we had a lovely weeks holiday.

Mr Graham

We loved the welcome of the cottage, decorated for Christmas with the tree lights on for our arrival. The cottage was very warm with a very efficient heating system. A great place to spend a pre Christmas break.

Mrs Sharp

Great location very close to the centre of Bakewell no parking but the permit was very useful and parking was easy at the back of the church close by. We had a lovely break and would definitely use again.

Mrs Burraway

Beautiful countryside and a lovely cosy cottage!

Miss Ward

The cottage is well placed to make the most of Bakewell, very homely and well heated with ample hot water as well. We appreciated the fact that dogs are welcome.

Mr Ireland

The property was bigger than expected from the photos and in a fabulous location for the centre of Bakewell.

Mrs Deards

Lovely cottage very close to Bakewell centre and pubs. If you're taking a dog there's fields two hundred yards away which was a lovely little walk. The place is much bigger and nicer than the photos show.

Mr Price

The cottage is very comfortable with everything you need, it was perfect!

Miss Faure

Delightful cottage and town

Knoll Cottage was extremely well equiped and delightfully furnished. Everything possible was provided.
Bakewell itself is a lovely town, spick and span, friendly and the cleanest, litter-free place I have ever visited.(dog friendly pubs too).
Parking is a bit of a problem but a very minor inconveinience.

friendly week-end

everything to meet our needs- a week-end meeting of friends from staffordshire and lincolnshire. very easy to walk into bakewell or travel out into surrounding area. due to position on busy main road, no facility for parking directly out-side property.

As comfortable as being at home

Our first look around Knoll Cottage gave us the Wow factor. It was warm, comfortable and very welcoming. There was a generous supply of lovely towels and beautiful bed linen. It lacked nothing. Knoll cottage is in a very good location close to the centre of Bakewell which offers plenty of good shopping and restaurants. It is a steep walk from the town up to the cottage so not for the infirm. Knoll cottage and Bakewell together made for a perfect holiday.
