Visiting the villages in the Wye Valley is highly recommended. They are charmingly picturesque and offer a chance to explore a Medieval Castle or two and eat and drink in some historic riverside pubs. Here are our favourite Wye Valley villages to visit:

St Briavels

This historic village is home to a castle dating back to the 12th century and is located in the heart of the Forest of Dean. The village is situated on a hill overlooking the River Wye and near the border with Wales. The Castle dates back to the 12th century and was initially built as a hunting lodge for King John. It later became a royal palace and a prison before becoming a youth hostel in the 20th century. Today, the Castle is managed by English Heritage and is open to visitors who can explore the Castle's history and enjoy the views of the surrounding countryside.

Brockweir

This small village is located on the banks of the River Wye and is worthy of a waterside stroll to admire its picturesque cottages and historic church.

Llandogo

This Welsh village is known for its stunning views of the valley and is home to two pubs, all serving good food, including the Sloop, a waterside Inn on the banks of the river.

Redbrook

Another picturesque riverside village in the heart of the Forest of Dean that offers scenic walks and stunning views of the Wye Valley. Buy postcards in the village shop, stamps from the post office and write messages to friends from the garden in the BellInn overlooking the river.

Goodrich

A small village that is home to a medieval castle and is located on the banks of the River Wye. Visitors will enjoy exploring the Castle and dining in one of its historic inns, The Hostelrie and The Kilcot. The Castle is also a lovely place for visitors to enjoy a picnic while enjoying stunning valley views.
