A former fishing town, Bridport, has now evolved as a rather lovely market town west of Dorset and has much to appeal to the visitor. The port is now no longer in use, the sea having long since retreated (you'll find it a few miles down the road in West Bay). The town nestles amidst ravishingly beautiful hills and rolling green countryside. Visit its bustling local market held every Wednesday and Saturday throughout the town streets.
For culture lovers, the Bridport Arts Centre, in a large converted chapel, offers a range of live events and exhibitions all year round. The chapel is one of many architecturally impressive buildings that add to the charming character of the town centre, together with its many small independent shops, many of them selling local organic produce.
