Orchard Cottage at Mornacott

We had a wonderful week in the cottage a made full use of all of the activities on offer. Charles, the estate manager, took all of us clay pigeon shooting and quickly got us all on target. The cottage itself was lovely and light and airy with beautiful oak beams. It was very well equipped. The swimming pool was quite superb and spotlessly clean and we bought meat from the shop for barbeques and some wonderful sausages, bacon and eggs for our breakfast. What a treat! We usually try somewhere new every year but unanimously decided to book Mornacott again next before we left.

About Orchard Cottage at Mornacott

  • Bedrooms: 4
  • Bathrooms: 4

The Old Stables at Mornacott is a stunning converted former stable block with original oak beams and a vaulted first-floor ceiling with oak joinery throughout, top quality contemporary soft furnishings and quality solid oak furniture.

Formerly the stable block that housed the three horses prior to the arrival of the first tractors, The Old Stables sits within the farmstead and benefits from glorious country views and a private sun trap terrace. The slate-roofed stable block was completely rebuilt using original materials.

The accommodation on the ground floor comprises a large open plan living space, a dining area and a kitchen/breakfast area. A separate WC is located off the main living area. The ground floor benefits from underfloor heating throughout. A widescreen television, with separate DVD player, complements the main seating area.

The first floor, accessed by an open tread oak staircase, comprises three bedrooms, two with ensuite bathrooms (with powerful showers over the baths) and one with an ensuite shower room. All have washbasins and WCs.

One bedroom upstairs has a double bed with the others having the flexibility of zip-and-link beds allowing for two singles or a double to suit.

The kitchen is equipped with a large electric range cooker, American style fridge/freezer with water dispenser, dishwasher and microwave.

Outside there is a large fenced terrace with a seating area and barbeque.

Leisure facilities: Shared heated indoor 13-metre swimming pool and sauna, extensive farm walks, croquet lawn, private fishing and clay pigeon shooting, wildlife safaris and camera deer stalking.

Farm activities: Guests are welcome to help feed the chickens, collect eggs and feed other livestock under supervision.

Adjacent parking for three cars, bed linen, towels, electric and central heating. There is free Wi-Fi and good mobile telephone reception for all major operators. On-site laundry and drying room.

Notes: * With having farm animals around the place (and much as we love them) we regret we are unable to accept pets. * The Old Stables is a no smoking building. * Arrival time: 4.00pm * Departure: 10.00am

Local area: Our rural location guarantees peaceful seclusion. At the same time, there is easy access to North Devon’s glorious beaches being two miles from the A361 North Devon Link Road. The beaches are ideal for surfers, bathers, sandcastle building and beach cricket lovers alike. Mornacott borders the Exmoor National Park and is just a few minutes from South Molton with its Farmers' and Pannier markets plus all the main services, shops, pubs and supermarkets you will need during your holiday. The larger town of Barnstaple is within 16 miles with many more shops, theatre and cinema.

A very special birthday

February 9th 2019

We’ve stayed at Mornacott twice before but this time we booked two of the lovely cottages over a very cold January week for a big family birthday party. The cottages were beautifully warm (heated by the large biomass boiler that heats the whole place) and the lovely log burner in the cottage was probably only a luxurious decoration and certainly not needed but fun to relax in front of in the evening. It’s often difficult with these sorts of reunion to please everyone with the different ages involved but the children (from 5-16) loved the heated swimming pool and the games room and most of the adults enjoyed the lovely mapped out walks (even dragging some of the initially reluctant children on one or two of them). For the “big event” we used the magnificent entertaining barn. Joanna the chef cooked two sittings, one for the younger children who were then whisked away to a babysitter after their supper and another for the older children and adults. The meal, the crisp linen table cloths, fine china and cut crystal were all very spoiling and the dinner (nearly all of the ingredients coming from the estate farm) was superb. We cannot recommend Mornacott more highly. The facilities are excellent and the whole team really helpful. All of the arrangements (and we had loads of requests for the dinner!) were dealt with in a very efficient and friendly manner and the champagne (together with their normal “welcome pack”) was a thoughtful and much appreciated touch.

Great Week in A Great Location

April 29th 2016

We had a great week. Great location and close to beaches and other attractions. The children loved being on the farm and getting close to the animals and feeding them. The staff were very helpful and informative.

Beautiful - Absolutely Beautiful!

April 29th 2016

The cottage was beautifully presented. The oak framed building was to a very high standard with all bedrooms being en suite. The under floor heating meant that although our stay was in February and it was very cold we were always very warm. The furnishings were most comfortable and the soft furnishings complemented the oak timbers beautifully. We were welcomed with flowers, a delicious cake and milk and eggs in the fridge. The property had plenty of outdoor seating and even a BBQ, although it was too cold to try these out. The open plan living space was large and well set out. Overall a beautiful cottage which could not be faulted and we really enjoyed our stay.

What More Could You Want?

April 29th 2016

A great place to stay, well equipped kitchen, comfy beds, lashings of hot water even with 8 of us staying. If you are looking for somewhere to stay with friends or family this is an ideal location with some lovely walks nearby. I would recommend a BBQ pack whatever the weather as they are delicious!

Location Lovely Location

April 29th 2016

A lovely house in a beautiful location. A very well run organisation and we would recommend not only their own meat products but the chef cooking for you which was beautifully done. The night safari was also very well organised.

Peace and Views

April 29th 2016

Orchard Cottage is a lovely property, fantastic interior and very clean. It's well equipped and an excellent size for 7 people, 4 of which were very busy children. Nice and quiet with lovely views especially the buzzards and wild deer, I would recommend highly.

Definitely Coming Back!

April 29th 2016

We had a terrific week at Mornacott. The children loved staying at the farm. They fell in love with the owner's Jack Russell called Patch - now they want a dog ! The walks from the farm were all excellent. Well marked maps with easy to follow instructions, and beautiful North Devon countryside. Really well equipped kitchen, and overall great accommodation. I cannot think of anything that you could add that hadn't been thought of! We would definitely go back.
