There are several good places to eat, including Brasserie Blanc, The Courtyard, and Giovanni’s. Knutsford was the inspiration for Elizabeth Gaskell’s novel Cranford, and guided walks can be taken from the town’s heritage centre to discover the places described in the book. The writer lived in the town and is buried at Brook Street Unitarian Chapel.

The heritage centre is housed in a beautiful 17th century half-timbered building, and is home to fascinating exhibits on the town’s history.
