Wood Cottage, Kendal

Wood Cottage is in Kendal, a charming and historic market town in Cumbria rightfully known as “The Gateway to The Lake District’ (assuming you are travelling from the south). Just a short jaunt down one of the alleys in that town reveals a small cottage for two that opens up all the possibilities a couple could ever want for a romantic escape in Kendall.

A cosy hideaway, Wood Cottage is an adorable cottage for couples. With the bedroom and washroom on the ground floor and the open sitting room on the first floor with a Juliette balcony, you will love coming home to this stone-built gem after a day of walking in or exploring the history-filled Lake District.

Kendal has so much to offer for all interests! A mere three hundred yards from Wood Cottage is the Brewery Arts Centre. One might also visit the Abbot Hall gallery to see any of the portraits regularly on display, along with several other exhibitions year-round. Atop a hill that provides breathtaking views of the town and surrounding countryside are Kendal Castle’s ruins, dating back to the 12th century. Just a few minutes away from the town are both Sizergh Castle and Levens Hall. The Kent River runs through Kendal, which can be followed to discover many magnificent views. Of course, Lake District National Park is very close by. For those who wish to stay in town and relax, Kendal is also a famously vibrant shopping town.

Cottage for Two

The cottage was very comfortable. The little extras ie flowers, wine, bread, milk etc provided by the owners made it even more welcoming. We had a very enjoyable week despite the ever changing weather. We would go again.

Very good and local for the Lake District

I have already sent in a review for Wood Cottage 4 weeks after we returned. The only problem we had was my wife has difficulty with stairs. As there was no rail to hold on to this was quite difficult for her. I feel this should be mentioned in case visitors also have a problem with stairs. Other than that we enjoyed our stay.

Small compact cottage

Well set out cottage - nice welcome package on arrival - flowers, wine, bread & biscuits. Bedroom very warm in June (summer duvet would be appreciated - bedroom downstairs - not a good ideal for windows to be open at night - due to the location of the cottage). Parking not off road as advertised - street parking was the only parking available. Bed comfortable - but due to size of bedroom unable to get out one side. Shower curtain mouldy, wet room compact but easy to use.

Mrs Dhupar

A very comfortable well set up cottage. Handy to shops and close to the Lake District. Owner very helpful and friendly.

Mr Ormiston

Everything was there and ready with no hassle at all - cottage is nicely located just off the High Street.

Mr Fawcus Gibbs

Beautiful cosy cottage in a fantastic location. We enjoyed every minute of our stay.

Mr Clark

The scenery and the location of the cottage. It was easy to get out to the surrounding area but also possible to stay in Kendal when the weather was bad. The Abbot Hall art gallery was superb, as were the local restaurants and amenities. The people were very friendly and we had a great evening at a LeRoc venue dancing the night away!

Ms Johnson

Wood Cottage is a beautiful, quaint cottage in a good location tucked away from the high street but within minutes of the town. The standard of cleanliness was very high and the owners of the cottage left us lovely little touches, fresh milk and bread, tea, coffee, biscuits, flowers and wine.

Ms Mathieu

Strange but quaint and cosy accommodation. Lots to do in Kendal itself.

Mr Cracknell

The cottage was lovely, very welcoming and homely. The extras in the cottage were very much appreciated - butter, bread, milk, tea. Some sauces, spices and rice were also left in the cupboards from the previous tenants which was brilliant as it made it easier to cook meals without buying (and wasting) brand new items. The information on various local walks left in the cottage was also great - we had things to do every day and got to see lots of the beautiful Lake District scenery.

Ms Green

Excellent location and a lovely cottage - ideal for our purposes.

Dr Marrs

We really enjoyed our stay in Wood Cottage - it was an ideal base for exploring the Lakes and North Yorkshire.
The cottage was a good size for two people and quiet, whilst still being close to all the necessary amenities in Kendal town.

Miss Defreitas

The cottage was right in the centre of Kendal but down a little lane so was very quiet. The extras that the owner left for us were exceptional. Not only tea, coffee, milk and bread, but also bacon, eggs and a bottle of wine. Brilliant!

Mrs Robinson

There were flowers, bread, milk, wine and all manner of goodies which got us over our arrival and allowed us to settle in in a leisurely fashion without dashing out for supplies. The setting of the cottage was perfect, accessible to the town but hidden away. The area was good for walking and we did a lot of that!

Mrs Rosbrook

The cottage was clean and inviting and the owners had put a lot of thought into the layout and added extras ie flowers, bread and milk, books games. Ideally situated for visiting the Lake District and very close to shops.

A lovely, comfortable, well furnished and well stocked home. Everything we wanted and needed was provided for. A great place to come back to after a days walking around the lakes.

Wood Cottage was an excellent place to stay; there was all we needed in the cottage and it was in a great location too.

Mrs Diplock

The cottage was lovely and there were flowers and wine from the owners waiting to greet us on our arrival, along with the essentials of bread and milk etc.
There was plenty of information on what to do and where to go in the area available at the cottage and overall it was a very enjoyable holiday.

Mrs Johnson

We loved every part of the holiday - from the little added extras in the cottage, to the fantastic location. A perfect romantic get away in a cosy, snug cottage.
