The Stable in Milton

Head to the North West of England and enjoy a quiet holiday with a stay at The Stable, a charming, stone-built, mid-terrace cottage found on a working livestock farm in the rural hamlet of Milton, Cumbria.

As its name implies, The Stable is a romantic conversion from an old farm building into a charming Cumbrian holiday cottage for couples. The Stable retains much of the charm of its former existence with original beams and exposed stonework throughout the one-bedroom, one-bathroom ground-floor plan.

The dog-friendly holiday cottage allows couples to bring the family pet for a small charge. It also comes with shared use of a summerhouse and hot tub year-round, again for a small charge.

The Stable comes with a fully fitted modern kitchen, a sitting area with a wood burner, an adjoining summer room with a dining area and access to a decked balcony with patio furniture and barbecue.

An idyllic romantic retreat, The Stable is a great place to relax and unwind from the rigours of daily life. Enjoy the views of the countryside from the balcony, or guests can wander this historic region, including the market town of Brampton, with its rich and colourful history dating back to the Roman occupation; Talkin Tarn Country Park, which covers 180 acres and includes the Tarn, a 10,000-year-old glacial lake fed by underwater springs; the majestic North Pennines; and mighty Hadrian’s Wall.

We liked having a deck to sit on outside and also having a conservatory to sit in inside.

Mr Baker

Cleanliness, and overall presentation was superb. Thank you for a wonderful break.

Mr McIver

Owners very helpful and also descrite with privacy. Smashing little cottage with very warm log burner and heating system. Great views from the conservatory. A credit to the owners. Thank you.

Mr Huhges

We had a brilliant weekend away, with a log fire and access to the hot tub in the garden. Very friendly owners who explained everything brilliantly. Brilliant location, close to a small village and plenty of walks along Hadrian wall. Beautiful setting, and very peaceful, would recommend to everyone.

Mrs Hepke

The cottage was beautiful, and in the perfect location! I will be booking it again, and have already passed the information to family and friends.

Mr Cowan

Had a lovely, relaxing time. The owner was very friendly and knowledgeable of what to do and where to take our dog Woody. Will definitely stay again in the future.

Smith

The cottage was lovely and beautifully maintained. The lady who owns it was brilliant, she was extremely helpful and knowledgeable of the local area. Our stay was even more special to us because we got engaged whilst we were there. We will definitely be returning! Definitely worth paying extra for the use of the hot tub. We spent a lot of time in there and it made our break even more special being able to sit out in comfort at night with a couple of drinks. The place could not have been more perfect for us.

Miss Beck

Great location; not far from Carlisle and Hadrians wall. Hot tub was lovely, wood burner very warm - made the room very cosy.

Miss Webster

It was warm and welcoming, was of a high standard and had everything we needed to hand, especially liked the bed - very comfortable. Nice sun room to eat in and watch the birds outside. Hot tub and summer house was really good, lovely wood burner, the heating system kept the cottage very warm anyway. Quality bedding and towels were an added bonus. We are already planning to revisit.

Mrs McSeveny

The cottage was very clean, homely, cosy and the fire kept it really warm. I loved the bath which was massive! The bed was also really comfortable. We had such a relaxing week and the hot tub was great for having a drink and getting a look at the stars which are amazing on a clear night! Really lovely, friendly and helpful owner as well. Also, Spring was a great time to go as there were lambs pottering around just at the end of the garden - so cute.

Miss Mooney

Peaceful, beautiful surroundings and friendly people.

Miss Toor

A great spot, handy to many areas and we liked the rural setting. The garden was lovely, it was very comfortable to return to after a day out and outdoor seating for dining was very pleasant. The host was very helpful. Had good parking, shopping close and was a lovely restored farm building. We had a terrific week there.

Mr Allen

Quiet and peaceful, in the little village of Brampton. The owners were extremely pleasant and laid back, she showed us how to work the log fire and hot tub and left us to it. The bedroom and bathroom were modern and very comfy, and they were of a decent size. Would definitely recommend for anyone wanting to visit Cumbria and the Lake District.

Mr Burdett-Johnstone

Lovely little cottage, good for a couple. Nice hot tub and friendly owners. We thoroughly enjoyed visiting places; Coniston Water especially, however we are happy drivers and although there is things to do not too far from the cottage some of the main lakes and attractions are a good hour away.

Miss Jennings

The owners were very friendly and informative about the surrounding area and were always on hand if you needed anything. The cottage had more than expected and was very homely and comfy. We had a very relaxed and enjoyable 3 nights and we are already looking to see when we can go back.

Beautiful well kept cottage, gorgeous views, lovely owner.

The owner was very nice woman who was there to greet us when we arrived and showed us around, there was a bundle of leaflets for various attractions and take aways and she showed us how to work the log fire which is lovely but we found doesn't give off that much heat however the hearing was on all the time so we weren't cold. The kitchen is cosy and fully equipped, the bathroom is lovely and large, the bedroom is big but the only quibble was the fridge rattled a bit so took me a while to ignore that on the first night. The lounge is cosy but slightly old fashioned decor. The conservatory is lovely to have a meal in the evening with a gorgeous view. There is a Trainline very close to the house but I only heard it once in a 5 day stay. There is also an outdoor patio area to eat if the weather permits.
The hot tub is massive and fits 8 people and easy to use but it's not very private and your sharing it with 2 other cottages adjoined to yours. It was lovely to go in though. The summer house is large and warm and has a large stack of DVDs and a small TV so you can sit in there and relax. There's also a cross trainer in there.
I'd definitely come back here again and recommend it to others.

The property owners were there, but not intrusive. Compact, contained and a pleasant place to rest.

Mr Throup

Good location for Hadrian's Wall. Also the nearby Miltonrigg Wood was good for dog walking.

Mr Dallaway

The cottage and the views from it were really lovely and the garden was very nicely kept. We could have not asked for a better location or surroundings.
We particularly enjoyed its location and the fact that there was a dishwasher! The heating was very good. The lady owner was very helpful and attentive. She had left novels, puzzles and DVDs in the cottage for our use. She left us tea, sugar, milk and a bottle of wine on our arrival! The kitchen was fully equipped and up to a very nice standard, nothing was missing. There was paper and kindling for the fire. Loved the place!

Mr Gutierrez

Nice, rural area, peaceful and quiet. Very helpful owners. Compact cottage but the right size for the two of us.

Mr Crisp

I enjoyed the cottage. It was lovely, great for just 2 people. Cosy and warm in the cold winter nights. The owner was really nice. Not far from the local town and nice local pubs for food and drink. Nice places to go and visit if you are interested in outdoors/walking.

Mrs Duncan

A friendly welcome from the owners. Peaceful setting. Brampton is an interesting town with good attractions nearby eg: Hadrian's Wall, Lanercost Priory, Talkin Tarn Country Park, Geltsdale RSPB Reserve and good walking in the North Pennines.

Mr Caddy

A beautiful cottage in a lovely location. The owners were very helpful and friendly.

Ms Mortimer

The owner was very friendly and most helpful with her suggestion of places to visit and places to eat. Her local knowledge was very good. There was plenty of information and tourist guides available in cottage.

Mr Taylor

Very friendly owners. Large bedroom and good bathroom. Houghton Hall garden centre worth a visit.

Mrs Hamilton

The owners were very friendly and helpful. The area itself was beautiful and there were lots of places to enjoy the local scenery and go walking. An all round lovely cottage retreat which certainly made mine and my partner's Christmas memorable!

Ms Staveley

The owner of the property was very pleasant and welcoming. Cosy cottage which was ideal for our relaxing break away. I would recommend this cottage - we will be returning!
