Stoneleigh, once the home to Field Marshal Sir Gerald Templar and now a gorgeous holiday home in the popular small North Devon town of Northam, makes the perfect cottage for large families and groups seeking to relax along the South West coast.

This child-friendly cottage dates to 1881 and was designed by prominent Victorian architect William Bryden. Stoneleigh sits at the end of a private sweeping driveway and boasts ornate brickwork, original sash windows, a grand front hall with restored tessellate tiles, and a well-manicured wraparound garden.

The pet-friendly cottage offers plenty of amenities to appeal to guests of all ages. The formal sitting room features an ornate ceiling, Sky TV, and a wood burner stove. The traditional games room boasts a billiards table, whilst the gaming room comes with an Xbox console with two controllers.

The well-equipped kitchen includes a five-door Aga and pantry to prepare meals, which you can serve in the dining area found in the former library. Professional catering is available for any special occasion you might be celebrating during your stay at Stoneleigh.

Climb the sweeping staircase to find six bedrooms on the first floor, all with big sash windows and garden views. The master features a handsome four-poster bed and en-suite bathroom, whilst two other bedrooms also come with en-suite.

In the rear courtyard, you’ll find Cedar Cottage, a self-contained suite with a super-king bed and kitchenette, and a two-bedroom coach house on the grounds offers privacy for members of your party with a wood burner in the sitting area, basic kitchen/diner, and family bathroom.

The grounds of this North Devon coastal cottage include a large lawned garden with a pond and decking to sit out and enjoy a glass of wine or cup of tea basking in the fresh air.

Northam is just a short drive from the sandy beach at Westward Ho! or the market town of Bideford along the banks of the River Torridge. Golfers can enjoy a round at nearby Royal North Devon Golf Club, whilst walkers can explore the South West Coastal Path and cyclists pedal along the Tarka Trail.
