Combe Martin’s history stretches back to the Iron Age, with Newberry Castle being a fine example. Take a walk around the fort and imagine what feudal times had been like. For a trip much further back, take the kids to The Wildlife and Dinosaur Park to see the wallabies, wolves and lions, and also the robotic T. Rex and Velociraptor! Just three miles from here lies the exquisite Arlington Court, a National Trust estate perfect for exploring North Devon’s cultural history, and also for taking a walk around the rolling gardens.
Not to be ignored is the nearby seaside resort of Ilfracombe, home to Verity – an impressive statue, taller than then Angel of the North.
