Founded by the Saxons, Okehampton has a long and interesting past. Visit the Museum of Dartmoor Life to learn more through fun, interactive displays. Okehampton is not just for adults – kids have lots to choose from, too, such as a day trip to Okehampton Castle. The largest castle in Devon, there are rumours of hauntings – although that will be easily forgotten while playing around outside in the nearby woods, or when sitting down for a lovely picnic by the river. If local art is what you are after, then the Salar Gallery often exhibits the work of Devonian artists, showcasing talents from all corners of this wonderful county. Visit Simmons Park afterwards for more adventuring with the kids, or take some time to play cricket or have a go at the bowling green. The Bowden Hostas is also a great place to visit, which is home to the lovely Hostas plant – and as if all of this is not enough, there is also The Dartmoor Minature Pony Centre, which is as adorable as it sounds. Take the time to visit Okehampton, and see for yourself what it is all about from a holiday cottage nearby!
