The Sycamores Near Weymouth

Dog-Friendly Coast and Country Cottage Near Weymouth. Sleeps 5.

Sycamores Cottage is one of seven holiday cottages on our working farm, 5 miles West of Weymouth and a stone's throw from the stunning Chesil Beach and Jurassic Coastline.
The cottage can accommodate five people. It has two bedrooms upstairs, which can be made up as doubles or twin beds as required. The cottage contains exposed beams, inglenooks, and an open fire. The kitchen, including a dishwasher, is well equipped, and has a farmhouse table that easily seats five for sociable meal times. The sitting room has a sofa and two armchairs for relaxing in front of the open log fire or watching TV (recently upgraded to a Smart TV for watching Netflix, etc.).
Free Wi-Fi (high-speed fibre) is provided to keep you in touch with the outside world! The upstairs bathroom has a bath and shower attachment.
The Sycamores has a large, south-facing, enclosed garden with a patio and garden furniture where you can enjoy a barbeque or evening drinks. The garden leads onto our own farmland, from which you can join the Coastal Footpath and numerous shorter walks. There is plenty of space at the rear of the cottage to park your car, and we are dog-friendly (usually a maximum of 2).
A short walk from the Sycamores is a games room with table tennis, table football, and a good selection of paperbacks for you to borrow. It also has laundry facilities.
We try to stick to weekly breaks running Friday to Friday and short breaks out of season - a 3-night break running Friday to Monday and a 4-night break running Monday to Friday. However, we can be flexible if you have different requirements.
The cottage is surrounded by open fields in which you can walk and join many public footpaths, and indeed, the Coastal Footpath runs very close to the cottage. Five miles to the east is the seaside town of Weymouth, which has a beautiful sandy beach, lovely safe, and shallow water. Three miles to the west is the village of Abbotsbury, famous for its Swannery and Sub-tropical gardens. A little bit further is the village of West Bay, the location for the popular ITV series Broadchurch. Here, you will find the stunning beach and cliffs, which often form the backdrop for the programme.
Dorset is a fantastic place to explore, with many country houses and gardens. The market town of Dorchester is a 15-minute drive away. It is worth visiting, notably Brewery Square, a new development featuring an Odeon Cinema and many eating places such as Nandos, Pizza Express, Cotes, Zizzis and Waggamamas. Also, Monkey World, the Tank Museum at Bovingdon, Go Ape, and Brenscombe Outdoor Center, with its exhilarating high ropes and numerous beaches, should keep all busy.

Clean and Cosy Cottage

Lovely clean, cosy cottage. Owners were friendly and helpful on the phone and in person.
Very nice location, quiet and peaceful and with good walks from the cottage.
An OS map, or similar, would have been handy to show walking routes.
If it was my place I would promote the wildlife on the Fleet and the walks more, and provide bird/wildlife books and binoculars but then I am very keen on wildlife, so maybe that is a bit over the top!
The walks down to the Fleet and across the fields to Abbotsbury are lovely. Great birdlife on the Fleet and excellent views from the ridge you walk along towards Abbotsbury.
Upwey wishing well garden and cafe is very nice - lots of vegetarian options. Kings Arms at Portesham also good, staff were very helpful with disabled person in wheelchair.
Enchanted illuminations at Abbotsbury gardens was brilliant.

Perfect!

This to me was nothing less than perfect, the cottages are clean, well kept and in the most beautiful setting. We were helped by Jane who was polite and friendly and even directed me right to the front when I got lost. I can't fault the Character Farm Cottages. I would highly recommend them to any one travelling to the Jurassic coast!

Wonderful Holiday

We had a wonderful holiday in Langton Herring, the cottage was in a wonderful location very spacious and very comfortable.
It was so beautifully quiet as well, which was perfect for a relaxing holiday.
Also the location was very handy for trips out to the surrounding attractions.
Very much a home from home. Highly recommended.
There is the Elm Tree Inn in the village itself but we found the Kings Arms in nearby Portesham which had excellent food and very good service.
It’s a half hour drive along the coast to West Bay (Broadchurch) and neighbouring Bridport and a little further in the opposite direction to Weymouth and Portland Bill, well worth a visit.
