Loughborough is a bustling market town in the heart of Charnwood’s glorious countryside. It lies in the county of Leicestershire, 16 miles south of Nottingham and 12 miles north of Leicester. Loughborough is famous as the home of John Taylor Bellfounders, the world’s largest bell foundry, which has produced bells for St Paul’s Cathedral and York Minster. Loughborough has not lost its identity as a traditional Leicestershire market town, and markets are held every Thursday and Saturday with more than 100 stalls selling everything from fresh produce to clothes. There is also a Vintage Market every Friday with a variety of stalls selling antiques and collectibles. There are five museums where you can delve into the history of Loughborough’s bell foundry, railway, geology and industry. Every November a fair is held in the streets of Loughborough with rides, live entertainment and great food, and the Loogabarooga Festival welcomes authors and illustrators from around the world. If you fancy an evening out see what is on at the Odeon, a lovely art deco cinema at the Cattle Market. For a pint of local ale head to the Paget Arms, a lively Victorian pub with craft beers and gourmet burgers.
