Swift Cottage, Pickering

‘Swift’ Cottage sits within the North Moors National Park and is surrounded by stunning scenery and miles of wonderful walks—for example, to Newtondale, Cropton Forest, and the Moors beyond. Guests have access to excellent leisure facilities, including a pool, spa, and sauna. Additionally, ‘Swift’ is designed to be accessible to wheelchair users.

The cottage has been most attractively converted from former stables. It is located in the centre of the pretty village of Newton-on-Rawcliffe, with the village green, duck pond, and the village pub all within 100 yards. As with the other three properties comprising ‘Mel House Cottages’, guests staying in Swift can use an indoor heated swimming pool with a poolside sauna and a hot tub. These facilities are available exclusively to those taking a holiday here.

Entry to the cottage is via a good-sized porch that opens onto the large sitting/dining room with a wood burner, exposed floor-to-ceiling stone wall, and high vaulted ceilings with exposed beams and purlins. The fully equipped kitchen is located through a door off the dining room area, and the bedrooms are off the lounge area. A double, a twin and a single bedroom has a 1.5-metre turning circle and is designed to be accessible to a wheelchair user. There’s a wet room with shower, toilet (left transfer) and basin, with all appropriate support rails in place – next to the single bedroom and a further bathroom with bath, mixer-tap shower, toilet and basin next to the double bedroom.

DIY stabling and paddocks are on-site for those who want to bring their horses on holiday.

Swift Cottage is an ideal base for exploring all this area of North Yorkshire offers. The City of York and the coastal towns of Whitby, Scarborough and Filey are all within a 40-minute car drive. There are numerous local ‘Attractions’, the best-known being the ‘North York Moors Steam Railway’ (Pickering, 5 miles) and ‘Flamingo Land’ (Kirby Misperton, 9 miles).

Entertainment equipment includes a Freeview TV, DVD player and stereo radio/CD player. Fast fibre optic Wi-Fi is available free of charge.
