Picturesque, peaceful, comfortable, welcoming...a perfect vacation.

My husband and I spent two weeks at Larklands on our annual trip to the UK. The whole experience was a delight. Angela and Jack are wonderful hosts. The barn conversion is to very high standards, a beautiful old building with a very modern and comfortable interior. Bedrooms and bathrooms were well stocked with linens and very peaceful for a good nights sleep. The kitchen was equipped with everything we needed to prepare meals from our local shopping sprees. The market town of Richmond is a short drive away and has a wonderful butcher and fresh produce markets. Larklands is close to several good restaurants and pubs. All in all, a fantastic vacation home, one that we will revisit as often as possible.

Extremely comfortable barn with very welcoming hosts

We spent a week in this lovely barn conversion and cannot rate it too highly. It is much better equipped than many of the other places we have rented and is extremely comfortable. We were made to feel like very welcome guests and Jack and Angela could not have been more helpful or kinder. We even had a constant supply of free, fresh eggs!
The area itself is beautiful and we found it very easy to get to Richmond and places a bit further afield such as Fountains Abbey and Durham. Would love to go back.

Pet friendly luxury barn conversion in superb location

We had a great week staying at Larklands with our teenage daughter and our two small dogs. The owners are really friendly and welcoming. The barn has everything you could ask for as it's very well equipped. Our daughter loved the free Wifi!

Ravensworth is an ideal base if you want to visit the beautiful market towns of Yorkshire. Larklands is really pretty and tranquil and perfect spot for a relaxing break.

Our dogs had a great time watching the chickens, ducks etc from the window. Larklands is a working farm and we were slightly worried how the dogs would react but they were perfect and had a great time.

Would recommend Larklands to anyone looking for luxury accommodation in a beautiful and relaxing location.

Another wonderful visit to Larklands

This November we rented Larklands cottage for the second time. Our hosts, Angela and Jack, greeted us as old friends and the cottage was comfortable and inviting. My husband and I invited another couple to join us for part of our stay and we found that Larklands is the ideal base for touring Yorkshire. We took day trips to York, Castle Howard, Langley Castle, Ripley Castle and the Swaledale area. We also spent many pleasurable days just walking around the farm and enjoying the local scenery. We can't wait for our visit in 2016.

Class Cottage

My wife and I were up in N Yorkshire for a Wedding, so a week up in the Dales was a pleasant distraction and that of our Grand Daughter, who loved the farm animals .

We have stayed in many cottages up and down the Country. This let is on top of the pile. In antique terms they say 'quality sells'. This cottage had rooms and fittings of the highest quality. Beautifully planned. It was finished to such a high standard that is not normally found in holiday lets. The owners, Angela and Jack were very welcoming, even down to supplying fresh eggs.

If I had to be picky and this is no reflection on our fabulous stay, I would say a curtain over the entrance and hall area would give that extra bit of privacy, especially at night when one is dashing from the bedroom to the bathroom.

Fabulous, Fabulous, Fabulous

Fabulous accommodation ("The Barn"), located near to Richmond in the North Yorkshire Dales, with superb amenities. Angela & Jack, the owners, are the best hosts any guest could wish for. Friendly and welcoming nothing was too much trouble for these hosts who live nearby on this working farm. Our party of five, including our eighteen month old grandson, had a fantastic time in this picturesque rural setting near to the small village of Ravensworth. Used as a base to tour Durham, East and South Yorkshire, Larklands was a delight to return to after a busy day out.

The numerous animals on the farm both captivated and fascinated our grandson Rory and to have such closeness with the farm animals during our seven day stay was truly memorable.

If you are looking for a holiday cottage in the North Yorkshire area, based upon our experience, Larklands would be very hard to beat. Across the courtyard to our accommodation ("The Barn"), is equally high quality accommodation (which we viewed) known as "The Stables". At some point we hope to return to this area for another holiday and would not hesitate to stay in either of these excellent cottages.

Thank you Angela and Jack for helping to make our stay so enjoyable.

Stunning, amazing - don't hesistate - it is really excellent!

It look good when we booked it but it was even better when we got there!
The setting and the comfort of the house is excellent and really, really very spacious ( which is ideal when traveling with 2 teenagers and 1 child - not forgetting the excellent WIFI off course).

Rural walks within 2 mins reach ( = Mum and dad happy), Richmond Town/shopping within 10 mins ( = Teenagers happy ), Feeding the lambs on the farm ( = Everybody!! happy)

7 days is just far too short.

belbrit

Very high standard of decor, kitchen appliances and utensils.

Dr Byers

Location ideal for days out to North Yorkshire Moors and attractions. Superb accommodation.

Mr Bridgeman

Beautiful property in a peaceful location with friendly and unobtrusive landlords.

Mr Chandler

Our holiday in Larklands was fantastic from beginning to end. It was our first getaway with our 7 month old daughter and our first holiday in the UK. Larklands is a perfect cottage for a country getaway. The accommodation and facilities are fantastic, the setting is beautiful. Angela and her husband were the perfect hosts, very welcoming and helpful. Will definitely be revisiting.

Mr Wilson

The location of the property was excellent and close to a variety of tourist related amenities. Excellent access routes to other parts of the area. Owners provided a "welcome pack" on arrival which was most appreciated.
Owners were very helpful, friendly and readily available for chats and to give advice generally.

Mrs Bowman

The owners were very friendly and on hand to help etc but totally respected your privacy. The animals around the farm were fascinating and entertaining. The best part was staying in a beautiful house and being able to have our dogs with us. Would return again and again as the surrounding areas for walking are also fantastic.

Miss Flynn

I liked the location and friendliness of the owners. The property was warm and comfortable and well equipped. The farm animals were lovely ducks, chickens, sheep, hens scattered around - great for kids. We had a wonderful relaxing holiday in a great location.

Mr Frederiksen

The owners were great hosts and they made our stay outstanding and memorable. Grandchildren loved the cottage and they want more! Cheers
and an absolutely lovely stay.

Dr Coyle

We all liked the standard of the property, and the living room was a great feature, particularly the sofa. The welcome gift was a nice touch too. We also liked the flowers scattered around the cottage.

Mrs Bond

Excellent doesn't begin to describe the hospitality shown by the owners. We were overwhelmed and our grandchildren fell in love with the farm. The first night meal, prepared by the owner was delicious as was the "welcome" package of eggs/butter/jam/bread/milk etc. There wasn't a thing missing in the kitchen - and if it was, I'm sure they would have provided it. Overall, this team ensured that we'd want to visit Larklands and Yorkshire again. Everyone was knowledgeable about the area and the local pub was a delight.

Dr Coyle

This was our second visit and when we drove up to the property it was like coming home. Our hosts made us feel very welcome. It was lambing time when we were there and that was lovely to see and there was lots of activity on the farm. Our three dogs loved it. Whilst there we had sunshine, snow and rain but the property is always comfortable to be in and very cosy despite the large rooms. The 'Shoulder of Mutton' is a fantastic pub for food.

Miss Flynn

Plenty of space, property finished to a very high standard, a beautiful place to stay.

Mr Hollis

Very friendly owners. The property was very clean and the kids loved feeding the animals.

Mrs Todd

The host/owner was incredibly welcoming. Plus, the attention to detail in the cottage was super.

Mrs Neville

Excellent all round. Fabulous place for a vacation. Excellent property in a wonderful location. The reception from the owners was fantastic. Hope to return soon. The animals are a great source of interest and fascination for all ages.

Miss Fountain

Cottage in set on a farm and is great for kids. Our boys loved feeding the chickens, sheep and turkeys. Lovely spacious cottage, plenty of room for everyone. Extremely helpful and friendly owner.

Mrs Hutcheon

The property was extremely comfortable and family friendly. The setting was beautiful, even in winter. The close proximity to the farm animals added to the enjoyment.

Mrs Bennett

Extremely welcoming and generous hosts.
Wonderful location on a working farm
Excellent accommodation.

Mrs Stone

The property is stunning, well equipped with everything you could need. The farm offered endless adventures for our children - lambs to feed, chickens, ducks and plenty of fresh eggs to collect!

Mr Williams

We loved meeting the owners of this property, their warmth and kindness made our holiday very special. The location of the property is superb with with a fabulous local pub within walking distance, lovely lake on the property for the dogs and interesting surroundings to explore. The house was a great place to spend time in and far larger than the pictures suggested. The property felt far more like a home than a holiday rental.

Mr Putnam

The cottage is beautifully located in a working farm. The views from the cottage are idyllic looking over rolling countryside, old ruins, and a small lake. The cottage is very clean, tidy and nicely decorated.

Miss Jasper

The property had very friendly hosts and we were made to feel very welcome. The children really enjoyed feeding the animals and we liked watching the chickens and their chicks running around. The cottage was very well equipped and we had everything we needed in a lovely peaceful setting.

Mrs Bond

Everything that you would need was in the cottage. We had a great time. The location is ideal as a base for walking, golf or just chilling out.

Mr Baker

Good location, lovely friendly hosts and lovely spacious and very well equipped cottage. Definitely stay again.

Mrs Pond

Thank you for a wonderful holiday. We had a great time and will definitely be back. We were sad to leave and look forward to booking again.

Mrs Giles

The accommodation is better than the information provided and we were able to enjoy a restful week coming and going as we liked. The hosts are helpful and clearly enjoy having visitors. Thoroughly recommended.

Mr Ayres

The Owners' hospitality was second to none as was the quality of every single part of the barn conversion. I cannot describe what excellent value this holiday let was. The surrounding area has some beautiful scenery and things to do. The owners have a folder in the barn with all the local tourist attractions within. The village of Ravensworth is so relaxed and friendly, a breath of fresh air. We will DEFINITELY be going back to the barn soon and if anyone is on the fence about whether to go or not all I can say is do it, you will not regret it. Thanks to the owners for a wonderful time away.

Mr Maudsley

We stayed here with two friends from Lancashire and upon arrival we met our hosts. They were most welcoming and set the tone for what was to be a very enjoyable 7 days at Larklands. Nothing was too much trouble for them and they immediately sorted out any queries that we had. The cottage is one of the best we have stayed in, and we have holidayed in some excellent ones. It is very well equipped with everything one could wish for and the Wi-Fi enabled me to check on the various place that we wished to visit. The large bedroom is very spacious with a wonderful comfy bed, settee and en-suite.
One always wonders when booking a cottage if it will be as good as it is made out to be. Well for anyone considering Larklands then I would say don't hesitate, you will not be disappointed.

Mr Richardson

The welcome and unexpected welcome pack were fantastic. We were made to feel totally at home at the property. The property itself was wonderful and as good, if not better, than we had hoped for.

Mr Guest

The cottage was fantastically equipped, the best I've stayed in. All the rooms are comfortable and spacious. The welcome pack and other little extras gave it a luxurious feeling. The owners are very friendly and on-hand should you need anything. It is situated near places for really great days out. We went somewhere different every day. We enjoyed trips to Reeth, Bolton Castle, Easby Abbey, Constable Burton Halls, Aysgarth Falls, Muker, Keld and Staithes.

Ms Bell

The property was lovely and the owners were friendly and helpful.

Mr Anscomb

The cottage was even better than we expected from the photos. Very spacious, extremely well done conversion of an old stone barn. We like to cook and the kitchen was set up beautifully. The bathrooms were very luxurious, large and comfortable bedrooms and living room. The rural atmosphere was tranquil and the farm animals added extra entertainment value. The best part of the experience was the very warm welcome that we received from the owners and their attention to our needs during our stay. The owners welcomed us as if we were old friends and we left feeling as if we had made two wonderful new friends. y

Mrs Norman

I cannot recommend Larklands highly enough. It is a stunning, well-kept property and just what we wanted for a special weekend get together. The owners could not have been more helpful and we cannot wait to return in the future.

Miss Seymour

Very private, very rural and very welcoming hosts. Set in lovely countryside. We had a great stay... will be back!

Mr Everard

Extremely welcoming and friendly hosts, spacious well equipped kitchen and lounge areas and a beautiful location from which we visited Richmond, Barnard Castle, Darlington and the Yorkshire Dales with Lightwater Valley theme park about 35 miles away - there's something to please people of all ages. The barn is in a peaceful, beautiful setting with free range hens wandering around supplying fresh eggs and we even had the chance to feed a new born lamb! As a family, we had a wonderful week in this blissful place and hope to return soon.

Mrs Akrill

We loved staying at Larklands and found everything to be of an excellent standard. The property was exceptionally clean and fresh and the furnishings were of a very high standard. We particularly loved the chickens who were fun to feed and watch. It was a perfect holiday house and we certainly plan to return.

The barn was very comfortable and the owners could not gave been more helpful or welcoming.

Mr Rowan

Very enjoyable holiday, great location and very friendly owners.

Mrs Whitehead

An excellent cottage to be able to unwind and relax, very peaceful.

Mr Hoogerwerf

A well equipped cottage with a fantastic social kitchen/diner/lounge area and first class care and attention from the owners.

Mrs Easey

A very friendly couple and a lovely spot with great views. Everything you need for a perfect holiday was in the cottage.

Miss Leighton

This was a lovely location on a working farm. The cockerels got you up early enough to enjoy the day. The owner was lovely and kind and helpful. The standard of fixtures, fittings and furnishings were superb. We would definitely recommend it. As a base to Richmond and surrounding area it is great.

Mrs Slack

Everything about the holiday was wonderful and made so by Larklands. The owners were the most welcoming of hosts and nothing was too much trouble. Our 18month old grandson had a whale of a time with all the animals. The standard of the property was extremely high and in our opinion could not be improved on in any way. We will certainly recommend this property to our friends and family and will not hesitate to return.

Mrs Robinson

We couldn't find fault with property at all. Excellent standard throughout. Very friendly and helpful owner. Beautiful peaceful location, but not too far away from shops and accessible to local attractions.

Mr Dove

We particularly liked the quiet location of this cottage and the owners were extremely pleasant, nothing was to much bother for them, we will definitely be back at a later date.

Mrs Wilson

Very relaxing and a great location. One of the best cottages we have stayed in, all the extras provided were greatly appreciated. The standard of fixtures and fittings were excellent and extremely clean.

Mr Aughton

The best farm holiday to date.

The barns have been tastefully converted to provide first class accommodation and a real homely feel. The photos do not do justice to the property and has to be experienced to fully appreciate. A real home from home.
Located close to the A66 gives a central position to explore the dales, towns and attractions within easy distance. Tesco delivery was on time and saved time on food shopping.
The property is well managed and everything is provided even down to the fresh flowers on arrival, and if you need something else just ask and the owners will do their best to help. Gill and Angela make the whole experience wonderful.
It's on a farm but without the mud and smells you sometimes get. Open the back door and collect the eggs from the free range chickens (plus a liberal sprinkling of cockerels)
Feeding the orphaned lambs was a thrill for our daugther too.
Two pubs to choose from, one in the village and a better one just up the hill above the cattle barns. Otherwise just melt into the massive settee and watch TV or DVDS provided.
Overall the best farm holiday we have had.

Tony_C58

Do not be deceived by the photographs.

We stayed at Larklands for one week. The outside photographs do not tell the whole story. The lounge faces a derelect buiding a broken down old barn. There is not any privacy as you share the back patio with three other families. The back patio is made up of loose chippings and not a suitable surface for anyone with any kind of mobility problem. The owners who at first appear friendly are always around and are overbearing.Far from being pet friendly there is no private area to let out your dogs without a lead as the courtyard and surround are overrun with cats and chickens which drives them mad.The advertisement said it is a working farm, however this was not fair to the dogs. The advertisement shows views across fields to ruins which can only be seen from the kitchen window,it also said to collect the keys from the farm opposite not next door.We have been holidaying in this part of yorkshire for many years with many companies but this was the worst. No privacy!

JENNIEH051

Fantastic weekend

Owners very friendly and welcoming, steading beautifully decorated and spotless on arrival. Plenty of space within the properly for the little one to run around and fantastic views. Little one loved feeding the chickens and ducks and even got a ride in the tractor much to his delight. We are already planning another visit

Lovely Rural Cottage

Excellent accommodation, beautiful setting and lovely people. Couldn't ask for more and will definitely be back. Higly recommended.

Polly & Ian Jennings

The only downside to our stay was that it had to end!

Lovely location, spectacular views & a spacious property with wooden beams, skylights and stone archways that is lacking in nothing! It was a family holiday of 4 adults (2 of which are wheelchair users) and our 15month old son, who it was a particularly fantastic experience for with the large open spaces, tractors to watch plus chickens and ducks to feed. We couldn't have asked for better hosts, they looked after us brilliantly with a superb welcome pack consisting of eggs, bread, milk, butter, jam etc, a fabulous hearty home made meal on arrival (small additional charge) and fresh flowers throughout the home. The only downside was it had to come to an end, so we promptly booked in for our next visit!

Great Stay!

My wife and I stayed here with 4 others (family and friends)- We loved it!

Loved having the farm animals around, especially the lamb! Lovely surroundings. Lovely people.

The quality of finishing in the house is excellent- it's been done really well and it shows.

Loved it so much we're going again in October!

Relaxation heaven

Have just enjoyed a wonderful relaxing week with my sister @ Larklands, the cottage is a joy to stay in, on the outskirts of a quiet little village, surrounded by beautiful views. The cottage is on a working farm and the animals, especially the chickens, are a joy to watch. The cottage has everything anyone could wish for and within walking distance of the local pub. I would recommend a holiday at this cottage, any time of the year, a little gem, therefore please ignore the one negative review from JennieHo5, they must have been wearing blinkers or just 'miffed' that they couldn't let the dogs chase the sheep!

Sherbert_10

A wonderful break...

We have had a fabulous stay at Larklands. The accommodation is first class and has everything you need and more. The farm offered endless adventures for our 3 and 5 year old girls and feeding lambs, ducks and baby chicks was a delight! The surroundings offered peace, relaxation and tranquility for mum, dad, granny and grandad. And the dog loved the countryside walks! The lovely town of Richmond was close enough and had everything you need and the area is stunning! Definitely eat at The Shoulder of Mutton pub. Fabulous food! All in all, a wonderful place to escape to and definitely will return...

A wonderful cottage on a working farm in stunning surroundings

Had a wonderful time. The owners were very friendly and welcoming and couldn't be more helpful. Loved spending time on the farm and watching the chickens running around. The setting was idyllic and ideal for visiting the surrounding area.

A lovely cottage with friendly hosts

Larklands cottage is a very comfortable and well- equipped cottage and is ideally situated for exploring the Yorkshire Dales and Moors. The cottage is light, spacious and well presented and the children enjoyed seeing the chickens and lambs around the place. It was clean and the facilities were very good. We were given a warm welcome with fresh eggs and bread. The nearby village is quiet and picturesque with a friendly pub serving a wide range of food.

Superb Accommodation in Idyllic Surroundings

Graylyn1892

Excellent accommodation for family groups

We stayed here as a family group that included our children and grandchildren and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The hosts have not penny-pinched with this accommodation therefore we found it well equipped, clean, comfortable.
The setting was ideal for those who appreciate peaceful surroundings and our young grandchildren enjoyed playing with the farm animals.
The hosts were welcoming and helpful but not intrusive.
We would welcome the chance to stay agian.

Great week

Put simply, DO NOT go to Larklands if you DO NOT like:

  1. Big, beautiful barn conversions with loads of space.
  2. Places that are well heated, decorated, furnished and equipped.
  3. Dark night time skies which show the brilliance of the stars
  4. Quiet rural locations where the sound of silence at night is only punctuated by nature, and not a great deal more by day time.
  5. Chickens peering through your door or full length windows
  6. The delicious eggs from the said birds.
  7. A great pub 10 min walk/2 min drive away
  8. The northern Yorkshire Dales close by.
  9. Welcoming but unobtrusive hosts.

Get our drift?????
