Delightful family vacation at Orchid Cottage
A lovely, clean, spacious, well equipped luxury cottage, in the heart of a beautiful village with two lovely pubs. The master bedroom was large, airy and quiet. A big, sunny courtyard garden allowed us to eat breakfasts and dinners in the sunshine, and also store our bikes safely. The Ax estuary is on the doorstep, as is beautiful countryside and wildlife. The cottage is quiet and there is parking outside. We had lovely walks and drives along the coastline which is truly spectacular, as well as bike rides to pretty, ancient villages. Lyme Regis is fabulous, only a short drive or bus-ride away - the upper level of the bus gave us wonderful views (!), and Beer and Sidmouth were all lovely too. So much to do, in good or bad weather, we couldn't fit it all in....although we tried very hard! We would highly recommend Orchid Cottage.

Orchid Cottage in East Devon dates back to the 19th Century when it was part of the building comprising the Axmouth village post office and stores. Orchid is located a mile from the coast next to a quiet lane within a valley with steep inclines providing field and woodland views to the front and rear. Its location is ideal for seaside holidays on East Devon beaches between Lyme Regis and Sidmouth, or walking holidays, along the Coast Path or rural footpaths in the picturesque Axe Valley countryside. With close proximity to the Jurassic Coast and inland attractions, you will not be short of activities.
Orchid cottage was refurbished in 2011 to provide a spacious 3-bedroom, with occasional 4th bedroom, end of terrace property that can comfortably accommodate six people. It is elegantly presented with good quality furnishings and is cosy and warm in colder months with modern, efficient central heating and good insulation through the majority of the cottage.
With its deceptively spacious interior and its flexible accommodation Orchid Cottage is suitable for a variety of guest groups including families, and groups of friends or relatives. It will appeal to those that appreciate a clean and tidy property and place this high on their list of requirements.
The large living room has two leather sofas and an antique leather chair, with an electric fire-effect heater for cosy evenings. The large kitchen/diner has a large dining table with six chairs. The family bathroom is upstairs off the landing. There is a large upstairs master bedroom with a double bed, double wardrobe and en-suite shower room/WC — a further upstairs double bedroom with double wardrobe, and an upstairs twin bedroom with a small wardrobe. The occasional 4th bedroom/snug room is located downstairs with a dual purpose single day bed.
Orchid Cottage is well equipped with modern and high-quality appliances. In the living room there is a wireless broadband router, DAB radio/iPhone dock/CD/ Bluetooth Hi-Fi, Samsung 40-inch LED TV and Blu-ray/DVD player. The kitchen is equipped with a large fridge/freezer, a washing machine, an electric double oven and hob, microwave oven and toaster. An iron and board and two hairdryers are provided. There is also a DAB radio/clock/iPhone/iPod dock in the master bedroom.
An outside patio to the rear with seating for six people and the private back garden is decoratively planted to provide colour and interest throughout the year. There is ample parking, both on-street and an allocated space behind the property. A children's play area lies a short walk along the quiet lane that passes the front of the cottage.
The seaside town of Seaton is just over 1 mile from the cottage and can provide most of your daily supplies and amenities, including two supermarkets. Lyme Regis and Axminster are also both close, approximately 6 miles by car.

Great location and very comfortable cottage
August 31st 2020
The house is in a lovely location in Axmouth; there are no shops but there are 2 pubs in Axmouth. We enjoyed local walks including to the seafront, approx a 20 minute walk. Easy drives to various beaches, from Charmouth in the east to Sidmouth in the west. The house was well-equipped for a comfortable family stay of 3 generations of our family. The weather during our stay was mixed so we used the TV and games as well as the garden. No dishwasher but there is a washing machine.

What a fantastic little home, everything was catered for and more! Very clean, comfortable and ideally situated for a stroll to the lovely local welcoming pubs. Would highly recommend this little house which felt like home.
Exceeded our expectations
January 6th 2017
We stayed at Orchid Cottage for four nights over the New Year holiday and found it to be extremely comfortable, well fitted, warm and homely, with a beautiful garden and patio area which would be a great asset in the summer months. The cottage is obviously well loved and cared for by the owners, who we found to be most helpful. The cottage is situated in a quiet location, but close to all amenities with two pubs within walking distance, both offering good food. We would have no hesitation in recomending this property.

This was the third time we have stayed in Orchid Cottage - it is a lovely cottage with good facilities. The weather during our latest stay was mixed but we were lovely and cosy in the cottage. Lovely beaches whatever the weather - Lyme Regis and Beer are very quaint and offer the opportunity to mooch around some little shops. Good pubs and restaurants nearby. Would recommend.
Fabulous cottage in pretty village near the coast
July 18th 2015
Arrived at the cottage and everything was of a high standard and very clean. Lots of space for four adults. Well equipped with everything we needed, the courtyard garden was lovely, a real sun-trap and not overlooked. Parking was great right outside the cottage on the road so didnt used the dedicated parking at the rear of the property. The village is very lovely with two pubs serving great food. It is only a short walk along the harbour road into Seaton. The cottage is perfectly placed to explore this part of the South coast and we had brilliant days out at Lyme Regis, Beer, Branscombe and Isle of Portland. Perfect in every way and would love to revisit, very highly recommend.

On arrival the cottage was immaculately clean tidy and homely Every thing as described in the information Lovely position to explore on foot or by car the durasic coastline To local pubs in the village and for self catering a waitrose and tescos are near by. Fresh fish from Beer and Westbay The owners were helpful and easy to contact and communicate with. We had a great break away and would not hesitate to go to the cottage again if we are in that area

The perfect holiday cottage
August 30th 2014
Perfect holiday cottage! The cottage is spacious, cleaned to perfection, has good quality furniture and is nicely decorated and has all the electronic equipment you will ever need along with good internet connection. It is situated in a lovely little village with a pub (more like a restaurant) at the end of the road where we dined twice. The food is very good, in fact my husband said he would eat everything on the menu, the staff are friendly and it gets very busy so it may be a good idea to book a table during busy months. The tram in Seaton (next to the huge Tesco store) is good fun and fishing and mini golf in Lyme Regis were even better than expected. Sadly we didn
Holiday at Orchid Cottage
May 24th 2014
We have just returned from another wonderful, relaxing and most enjoyable holiday at Orchid Cottage feeling thoroughly reinvigorated after a much needed break. The weather was superb for the time of year. Only Thursday was wet, and we spent that day exploring the fine array of shops at nearby Sidmouth after a splendid meal at the excellent Garden Centre Restaurant. During the rest of the week, we visited old friends at Uffculme, near Cullompton and spent many happy hours on the other days at favourite locations like Forde Abbey, with its superb gardens, Abbotsbury Sub-Tropical Gardens and picturesque places of local and cultural interest like Lyme Regis, Honiton,Branscombe and Beer. Once again we found the cottage superbly equipped with everything we needed and spotlessly clean. Over the years we have taken self catering holidays at many places both home and abroad but, without doubt, Orchid Cottage is the best of them and will remain our favourite holiday destination for years to come.
Chill out week
March 3rd 2014
We had a very nice winter break which was much needed The cottage is in excellent order and very well fitted and well equipped so we had everything we needed The cottage in a nice location close to two foodie pubs both in walking distance Plenty to see and do in the area and also if you dont want to go too far, large Tesco about a mile away We would reccommend, the owners go out of their way to make sure you are comfortable, we could be back!
Fabulous accommodation in an excellent location!

I have no hesitation in recommending this beautiful cottage to anyone looking for somewhere a "little bit special" to stay. The cottage is very well presented, offering good clean living accommodation (home from home). Located in a beautiful village, with two public houses, both offering a friendly welcome with excellent food and ale. The location is ideal to visit both Devon and Dorset and in easy reach of the beautiful coastline and many beaches. The owners of the property are very accommodating and have literally thought of everything, including dvd's and books to make your stay pleasurable. Truly, lovely and most certainly will be visiting again ... :-)
