Orchid Cottage in Axmouth

Family-Friendly, Coast and Country Cottage in East Devon. Sleeps 6

Orchid Cottage, a charming piece of history in East Devon, was once part of the 19th-century building that housed the Axmouth village post office and stores. Nestled a mile from the coast, it sits beside a tranquil lane, surrounded by a valley with steep inclines offering stunning field and woodland views. This idyllic location is perfect for seaside getaways on East Devon beaches between Lyme Regis and Sidmouth or exploring the picturesque Axe Valley countryside on walking holidays along the Coast Path or rural footpaths. With its proximity to the Jurassic Coast and other inland attractions, Orchid Cottage promises a wealth of activities for all.

Orchid Cottage underwent a thoughtful refurbishment in recent years, transforming it into a spacious 3-bedroom, with an occasional 4th bedroom, end-of-terrace property that can comfortably accommodate six people. The cottage is elegantly presented with high-quality furnishings, ensuring a cosy and warm stay even in colder months. Modern, efficient central heating and good insulation throughout most of the cottage further enhance the comfort, making it a perfect home away from home.

With its deceptively spacious interior and flexible accommodation, Orchid Cottage is designed to cater to various guest groups, including families and groups of friends or relatives. The cottage's layout and amenities are thoughtfully arranged to meet the diverse needs of its guests, making it an ideal choice for those who value a clean and tidy property and consider it a top priority in their vacation rental search.

The large living room has two leather sofas and an antique leather chair, with an electric fire-effect heater for cosy evenings. The large kitchen/diner has a large dining table with six chairs. The family bathroom is upstairs, off the landing. There is a large upstairs master bedroom with a double bed, double wardrobe and en-suite shower room/WC — a further upstairs double bedroom with a double wardrobe, and an upstairs twin bedroom with a small wardrobe. The occasional 4th bedroom/snug room has a dual-purpose single day bed downstairs.

Orchid Cottage is well equipped with modern, high-quality appliances. The living room has a wireless broadband router, DAB radio/iPhone dock/CD/ Bluetooth Hi-Fi, Samsung 40-inch LED TV, and Blu-ray/DVD player. The kitchen has a large fridge/freezer, a washing machine, an electric double oven and hob, a microwave oven and a toaster. An iron and board and two hairdryers are provided. There is also a DAB radio/clock/iPhone/iPod dock in the master bedroom.

There is an outside patio to the rear with seating for six people, and the private back garden is decoratively planted to provide colour and interest throughout the year. There is ample parking, both on-street and an allocated space behind the property. A children's play area is a short walk along the quiet lane in front of the cottage.

The seaside town of Seaton is just over 1 mile from the cottage and can provide most of your daily supplies and amenities, including two supermarkets. Lyme Regis and Axminster are also close, approximately 6 miles by car.

Fabulous accommodation in an excellent location!

I have no hesitation in recommending this beautiful cottage to anyone looking for somewhere a "little bit special" to stay. The cottage is very well presented, offering good clean living accommodation (home from home). Located in a beautiful village, with two public houses, both offering a friendly welcome with excellent food and ale. The location is ideal to visit both Devon and Dorset and in easy reach of the beautiful coastline and many beaches. The owners of the property are very accommodating and have literally thought of everything, including dvd's and books to make your stay pleasurable. Truly, lovely and most certainly will be visiting again ... :-)

Holiday at Orchid Cottage

We have just returned from another wonderful, relaxing and most enjoyable holiday at Orchid Cottage feeling thoroughly reinvigorated after a much needed break. The weather was superb for the time of year. Only Thursday was wet, and we spent that day exploring the fine array of shops at nearby Sidmouth after a splendid meal at the excellent Garden Centre Restaurant. During the rest of the week, we visited old friends at Uffculme, near Cullompton and spent many happy hours on the other days at favourite locations like Forde Abbey, with its superb gardens, Abbotsbury Sub-Tropical Gardens and picturesque places of local and cultural interest like Lyme Regis, Honiton,Branscombe and Beer. Once again we found the cottage superbly equipped with everything we needed and spotlessly clean. Over the years we have taken self catering holidays at many places both home and abroad but, without doubt, Orchid Cottage is the best of them and will remain our favourite holiday destination for years to come.

Perfect holiday cottage!

Perfect holiday cottage! The cottage is spacious, cleaned to perfection, has good quality furniture and is nicely decorated and has all the electronic equipment you will ever need along with good internet connection. It is situated in a lovely little village with a pub (more like a restaurant) at the end of the road where we dined twice. The food is very good, in fact my husband said he would eat everything on the menu, the staff are friendly and it gets very busy so it may be a good idea to book a table during busy months. The tram in Seaton (next to the huge Tesco store) is good fun and fishing and mini golf in Lyme Regis were even better than expected. Sadly we didn’t find any fossils along the coast but maybe next time. Stayed here with my husband, teenage son and his friend just before return to school/college. The owners were very helpful, quick to respond, payment was easy and deposit return was very prompt. I would love to stay in the cottage again and would recommend it to anyone.

Exceeded our expectations

We stayed at Orchid Cottage for four nights over the New Year holiday and found it to be extremely comfortable, well fitted, warm and homely, with a beautiful garden and patio area which would be a great asset in the summer months. The cottage is obviously well loved and cared for by the owners, who we found to be most helpful. The cottage is situated in a quiet location, but close to all amenities with two pubs within walking distance, both offering good food. We would have no hesitation in recomending this property.

Lovely cottage

This was the third time we have stayed in Orchid Cottage - it is a lovely cottage with good facilities. The weather during our latest stay was mixed but we were lovely and cosy in the cottage. Lovely beaches whatever the weather - Lyme Regis and Beer are very quaint and offer the opportunity to mooch around some little shops. Good pubs and restaurants nearby. Would recommend.

Philippa H,

Fabulous cottage in pretty village near the coast

Arrived at the cottage and everything was of a high standard and very clean. Lots of space for four adults. Well equipped with everything we needed, the courtyard garden was lovely, a real sun-trap and not overlooked. Parking was great right outside the cottage on the road so didnt used the dedicated parking at the rear of the property. The village is very lovely with two pubs serving great food. It is only a short walk along the harbour road into Seaton. The cottage is perfectly placed to explore this part of the South coast and we had brilliant days out at Lyme Regis, Beer, Branscombe and Isle of Portland. Perfect in every way and would love to revisit, very highly recommend.

Lovely cosy cottage

We had a lovely stay in cosy Orchid cottage. Clean & comfortable in a great location. Two nice pubs close by, plenty of parking & easy to get anywhere. Would recommend.

Great location and very comfortable cottage

The house is in a lovely location in Axmouth; there are no shops but there are 2 pubs in Axmouth. We enjoyed local walks including to the seafront, approx a 20 minute walk. Easy drives to various beaches, from Charmouth in the east to Sidmouth in the west. The house was well-equipped for a comfortable family stay of 3 generations of our family. The weather during our stay was mixed so we used the TV and games as well as the garden. No dishwasher but there is a washing machine.

Denise M,

Delightful family vacation at Orchid Cottage

A lovely, clean, spacious, well equipped luxury cottage, in the heart of a beautiful village with two lovely pubs. The master bedroom was large, airy and quiet. A big, sunny courtyard garden allowed us to eat breakfasts and dinners in the sunshine, and also store our bikes safely. The Ax estuary is on the doorstep, as is beautiful countryside and wildlife. The cottage is quiet and there is parking outside. We had lovely walks and drives along the coastline which is truly spectacular, as well as bike rides to pretty, ancient villages. Lyme Regis is fabulous, only a short drive or bus-ride away - the upper level of the bus gave us wonderful views (!), and Beer and Sidmouth were all lovely too. So much to do, in good or bad weather, we couldn't fit it all in....although we tried very hard! We would highly recommend Orchid Cottage.
