Find My Favourite Holiday Cottages in Derbyshire

The Peak District National Park will always be the major attraction in Derbyshire. Here, visitors will find a rich mix of large and small Derbyshire self-catering holiday accommodation to enjoy a holiday any time of the year. Most visitors opt to stay in a Derbyshire holiday cottage to enjoy the delights of the Peak District, whether on foot by bike or in a car. If walking this natural marvel is not enough, adventurous visitors can go potholing in limestone caves and climb down the Hope Valley. You might even try paint-balling at Wild Park Leisure in Ashbourne. If you fancy a swim, then why not book a luxury Derbyshire holiday cottage with a pool?

Culture lovers should head for the historic spa town of Buxton with its wonderful Opera House, Pavilion and grand Victorian architecture. Take time to visit Chatsworth House and Gardens near Bakewell with their beautiful lakes, cascading waterfall and views of rural Derbyshire. While Chatsworth is regarded as the best and most impressive of England's stately homes, the lesser-known but equally impressive Kedleston Hall, also located in Derbyshire near Quarndon, will give Chatsworth a good run for its money. Visit both and decide for yourselves!

Within the Peak District, walkers and cyclists will find some excellent trails, such as The High Peak Trail or the Tissington Trail, for exploring on foot or by bicycle. Some of these have been converted from railway lines closed by Dr. Beeching, now enjoying a new life as scenic trails through the Derbyshire Countryside.

Going up: If you’d prefer another form of travel, then head for the beautiful town of Matlock Bath at the foot of a steep valley and take a cable car up to the Heights of Abraham. Going down: You don’t have to be an expert pot-holer to go underground: just visit the inspiring Poole’s Cavern, often referred to as Derbyshire’s ‘hidden wonder’.

There’s plenty for children to do as well, even if joining the family for a walk or cycle ride through the stunning countryside is not enough. Gulliver’s Theme Park at Matlock Bath will entertain them (and the young at heart) for hours. Alternatively, treat them to a workout on the Go-Ape ropes course near Buxton.

Visitors in the latter part of June will be able to enjoy a very local tradition, that of well-dressing when villages in Derbyshire decorate ancient village wells. This is a charming and pleasant way to pass a couple of days, especially if combined with a lunch in the many pubs, restaurants and tea rooms to be found in the locality. Return to your holiday home for a relaxed evening, toasting crumpets by the fireside or eating al fresco on the terrace on a warm summer evening. Whether staying in the Peak District or elsewhere in this historic midland County, self-catering visitors will be delighted with the splendid choice of Derbyshire cottages to rent.
